It's not that difficult to see that we live in a world of over glut entertainment choices. And when it comes to music, one only has to be overwhelmed by a small dose of browsing My Space or any other now viral ways & means to seek music or crap of the "anyone can make music & put it out there."
In my experience of meeting so many musicians, singer/songwriters, metal bangers, R&B trackers & so on, the 2 big questions always are: "How did you get to where you are?" & "What advice do you have for getting my music to be really heard & make money doing it?"
Let's start with question one: I started at a time when there was me, a club, another club & a thing called a record company. That for better or worse, was the only way you were going to get big exposure to vast amounts of potential fans. That being said, there was another thing called LUCK! But, most importantly, a strong belief in what I was doing & nothing was going to stop me from my passion. That is the first & imperial truth you must go out with no matter what.
Question #2: Times are different. And yes, your music can be put out there on all the viral plateaus for all the world to hear. But, guess what? "They Don't." That's always going to be the job, you don't have time & the resources to do it.
What I will be talking about over the next few blogs, will be leading up to a seminar that I will conduct here in Los Angeles in November. It will be the "NO Nonsense" way to succeed in making your music make you a living. And NO, not everybody is going to be able to do it! But, there are many that have the abilities & the talent, it's a matter of focus & direction in your work. I know this. And by the way, what worked for me doesn't mean it will work for you. But something will!
