Who Gives Kudos:

Wednesday, March 28, 2007
First off thank you all for your comments about American Idol and yes, I had a ball. I loved working with all the girls, mentoring them, in fact I mentioned to the executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe, that I could quite easily give up the day job and do menotring all the time. I really did get very passionate about it.

Missed out on working with the boys but the whole gang excitedly ran over to my car as I was leaving to say how much they'd enjoyed my performance of 'To Sir' and working with me. I reciprocated in exactly the same way. It was like a mini mass hysteria. I think we really connected. Oh and by the way I loved singing the new arrangement of 'To Sir' which.....excuse me......was only re-arranged courtesy of Barry Manilow (Isn't he brillaint).

Of course now I'm obsessed with finding out what happened this week on Idol. I had to come back to London to do a gig and we don't get it here until Friday. I won't allow my American friends to tell me what happens before I watch it myself.

After Idol I left LA for New York to attend Elton John's 60th Birthday celebrations (I'd already been to one party for him in London before Idol which he shared with my friend Sam Taylor-Wood) she was 40 so they called it 'Together we're 100'.

Part 2 was a rather lavish event held at the Cathdral of St John the Divine. I found myself hob nobbing with Richard Gere and Carey Lowell, Pierce Brosnan and Keeley Shaye Smith, the Osbournes, Liz Hurley and Arun, Tom Brown the bespoke tailor, Jake from the Scissor Sisters, Lenny Kravitz, to name but a few. Around about 600 of us altogether.
Of course it was a magnificent event. We had a typically english supper.....chicken pot pie. Tony Bennett, Mary J Blige and the Scissor Sisters performed and a great time was had by all.

The following day a select few were invited by Leonard and Evelyn Lauder (Estee Lauder) to their apartment off Park Avenue for a buffet lunch. They were totally adorable and charming.

But the best thing of all was Elton's 60th concert at Madison Square Gardens on the Sunday night. He couldn't have been any better, it was the greatest live show, even exceeding my expectations. The band were stonking, the sound was perfect and Elton's voice was pristine. Bill Clinton, Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams and of course our very own Bernie Taupin got up on stage to say a few chosen words (in fact I'm sure Robin would still be there now blethering his head off if Whoopi hadn't yanked him off the stage)

I was a little disconcerted though........because Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) sat right in front of me throughout the whole concert and I had to stop myself from reminding him that he didn't have much time left, and he was wasting 3 hours of them watching Elton!! I suppose as Chloe wasn't visiable she was doing all the work!!!!! At least I told myself that and it helped calmed my nerves. We exchanged a quick hello and he reminded me we had met before!!!!!!!

Can't stop yawning so I'd better nod off for another 40 winks.

Keep smiling

Lol Lulu

Hi Lulu!

It was so much fun reading your post!  Actually, I am sitting here typing to you and watching Sidney Portier on Oprah - Dinner of a Lifetime.  Very interesting program about his sense of self and how he became what he is.

I am in agreement - please don't give up your day job, because your audience would suffer, but you did a fabulous job on AI (and to be honest, last night's show was nowhere nearly as fun as when you were a guest).  I also looked in the newspaper to see if you were singing at Elton John's party - I do not know if you did or didn't, but if you had, a better time would have been had by all!!!!

Looking forward to more posts from you, and I am desperately trying to find our your tour schedule either in the States or Scotland, England, or Ireland this summer!  My passport is dying for a new stamp!!!!   Take care and write again soon.

Luv, Drema

Sounds like you had a terrific time in the States. I didn't know you are a fan of the show "24". What about the show "Lost" or "House"? It's quite a good job Hugh Laurie does converting his English accent to an American accent. So how was your head feeling the day after the big birthday bash?  lol What a wonderful event to attend. Hey Lulu, here's an idea. What about performing with Barry Manilow in his Vegas show? Talk about a grand show. That's what it would be. I'm glad you had such a wonderful time Lulu. Rest up and don't be a stranger. Take care.   -Mark

Lulu, sounds like you had a star studed fun filled week!  I agree with Mark, you should team up with Barry in his Vegas show.   It is an awesome show.  I have seen the show, last year and I am headed back to Vegas to see him again in a couple of months.  Do you only tour in Europe?  Any US dates in the future?

Glad it all came down so wonderfully well for you, girl! I worked with Richard Gere in "Mothman Prophecies" as a stand-in for the real estate agent and then did some stunts on the stunt bridge as well as just be a bridge extra. It was filmed very near here instead of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where the incident occured. Actually, there is a whole nother story they didn't tell if you read the book. And Keifer looks more like me than his father. Saw him first in "Stand By Me" and when he came on screen I was like "Oh, my God!" that kid looks like he should be my son! I didn't even know who he was until the credits and the fact he was Donald Sutherland's son blew me away even further because...well, on stage I have been told I "act like Donald Sutherland" whatever THAT means??? I mean I have always enjoyed Donald's work, but was never per se a BIG fan, nor influenced by him. Oh well! And yes, Barry Manilow as the arranger was/is perfect for "Sir" Glad you had a wonderful time and keep a rockin, girl! You still got it! Take care. PEACE!

Hi Lulu!
I'm glad you had a great time here. You were definitely the high point of this season of AI.
You are so adorable! I had to tell my husband about your encounter with Jack Bauer! Hilarious!

My little girl and I listen to your CD in my car every day on the way to school. She loves to sing along with "Me, The Peaceful Heart".

I hope you visit us again soon!

Hope you'll be back soon, and with some concerts (I recommend the NJ/NY City area ;-))
