A Turn of a Leaf
On a dim path just before sunset. Alexander walks through the woods on the trail to his dearest love’s house. His thoughts are on her as he blindly walks the path as he has a million times before. He passes by a patch of daises, he stops to pick a few for his love. The site brings memories rushing into his mind of their first kiss. She was sitting upon a mossy rock wall. Holding a daisy in her hands and plucking the petals off and mouthing the words " He loves me, he loves me not" She ends on "he loves me not" with tears almost in her eyes. He holds her face as he kisses away her fears. With the memory fresh in his mind he quickens pace to greet his lovely Victoria.
Victoria sits in her front window sipping a glass of warm tea. She watches the sun dip bellow the horizon, sending waves of oranges and reds through the sky. The smell of lilacs permeates the air, sending her thoughts to her and Alexander’s first meeting. They were taking a stroll together through the trail that leads around the summer home of her parents. Holding hands and talking about random things. He seemed larger than life to her. So strong and confident, she was love struck from the first moment. She was a bit chill, and Alexander being the gentleman that he is placed his jacket around her shoulders to warm her. Not knowing that his mere presence set her soul ablaze.
Alexander stopped to pick a lilac from the ground. Looking into her deep blue eyes he placed the flower behind her ear and kissed her cheek. She blushed as he smiled. Snapped back from the wondrous daydream by the sight of Alexander cresting the hill in front of her house. She almost spills her tea on her flower print skirt. Checking herself over to make sure that everything is in place, an idea comes to her. She rushes for a dusty book on a near by shelf. Opening the tome to the first page, there lies a dried out lilac. She smiles as there is a knock at the door.
Alexander reaches the front gate of Victoria’s house feeling overwhelmed by his emotions. A hand full of daisies in one hand and the gate latch in the other. He is still thinking of their first kiss, and then it comes to him. Plucking one petal from the bunch of daises and grabbing a pen from his jacket pocket. He smiles for he knows the reaction he will get for this surprise. He knocks upon the door, and before he can place his hand back at his side the door opens. Looking into the blue vastness of Victoria’s eyes, he sees a purple flower behind her ear. Knowing what flower it is, he smiles fighting back tears. She steps forward to kiss him, but he halts her progress.
Victoria is almost angered by Alexander’s actions. She can not understand why her love would want to stop her long awaited kiss. The glimmer leaves her eyes and are replaced with angry tears. Alexander grasps one of her hands and opens it. Placing a small object in her palm and closing her hand again. She looks at him as he nods for her to open her hand. She looks down and opens her fingers. There in the middle of her palm lays a single daisy petal. She looks at the petal and then at him, wanting to smack him. He smiles and turns over the petal and gestures for her to look once more. There on the petal reads the words
" He Loves Me"
