The statement below is directly from the band and is also available on their own website at http://www.sleater-kinney.com:

After eleven years as a band, Sleater-Kinney have decided to go on indefinite hiatus. The upcoming summer shows will be our last. As of now, there are no plans for future tours or recordings.

We feel lucky to have had the support of many wonderful people over the years. We want to thank everyone who has worked with us, written kind words about us, performed with us, and inspired us.

But mostly we want to extend our gratitude to our amazing fans. You have been a part of our story from the beginning. We could not have made our music without your enthusiasm, passion, and loyalty. It is you who have made the entire journey worthwhile.

With love and thanks,

Sleater-Kinney

We at Sub Pop are exceptionally proud to have worked with Sleater-Kinney over the last couple of years. We were/are fans first and conspirators/supporters second, and we remain tremendously grateful for the opportunity to work with such inspired, motivated, enthused, fun, decent, and thoughtful people.

They also managed to make one of the best rock records Sub Pop's ever released.

The dates below will be your last chance to see the band. Avail yourself of the opportunity.

Jul 29 - Mellwood Arts Center - Louisville, KY

Jul 31 - Starlight Ballroom - Philadelphia, PA

Aug 01 - 930 Club - Washington, DC

Aug 02 - Webster Hall - New York City, NY

Aug 04 - Lollapalooza (Grant Park) - Chicago, IL

Aug 11 - The Crystal Ballroom - Portland, OR

Aug 12 - The Crystal Ballroom - Portland, OR

Very sad to see you go, too bad texas (especially san antonio) doesn't appreciate you guys enough to make ya'll come here one last time! I think the last time ya'll were here was on April 4, 2003 with pearl jam, that was a rockin show.
Maybe one day you can have a reunion show and at least hit austin (that's a better city than san antonio).

Good luck with everything, thanks for all the great music! It's got me through a break up, a failed make up, angry times, happy times and even gave me the courage to go for a great guy ("Oh!" was what inspired me and still makes me giggle!) ! Thanks for all the great times ladies, hope life treats you as well as it can!!

We will definately miss Sleater-Kinney here in Chicago.  They will always have a place in my heart.  If I hadn't alredy decided that I would have to get tickets for Lollapalooza this year, I deffinately would decide to now, considering it will be the last time I can.  I love these girls.  If they ever decide to continue their musical careers, their decission will be greeted warmly by me.

Thanks for the music.  It has meant a lot to me.  It was empowering then reflective.

I guess the only thing permanent is change.  I am sad and grateful. oh well........have to find a new obsession.

Sleater-kinney was one of the first bands I ever really got into.  I remember going out in high school to see them at the capitol theater in oly every chance I had.  I was hoping for one more chance, ahh well.  It's been a great run, be proud and happy!

I've been a fan for some time now and have bought most of your albums, had my picture taken at Sleater-Kinney Road (a road trip from Stumptown that made me wish I would never be cold again), saw you at the Crystal Ballroom and bought a shirt (little did I know it was a Large womens, but I wore it anyway, for a day) and I still cry a little when I hear Memorize Your Lines.  But what happens when I move from the the comfortable womb of the Willamette Valley?  You guys break up!  I knew I shouldn't have moved!  I move to New York to live with my girlfriend (who doesn't even like you guys, I don't know why I'm with her...) thinking "They'll come to New York, they have to.  It won't be the same as Portland, but I'll see 'em."  Now your show is sold out *everywhere* since these are going to be the last.

In any case, I'm going to miss you all very much.  I know each of you is talented enough to move on and create something new.  I don't have to wish you all the best because you don't need it, you guys are going to create great things.  I can't wait to see the new things that come from your guys' heads, hearts and studios.  Thanks.

I have to say that I am shocked and saddened by the decision of the band, but I respect it and will just have to play the music they have made until the CDs disintegrate. I was always proud to say that they rocked harder than any male rock group in existence and will miss them a great deal.

Good luck in whatever you do in the future.

It's so sad that there will most likely be no more Sleater-Kinney records, tours, videos, etc.  But we will always have the amazing songs forever.  Maybe there will be a special box set soon.  Idk.  But I love S-K  and I'm sad to see them leave but they will be missed.

After being a fan for about 8 years now, I somehow never got to see you guys play. I've always been preoccpied with working 3 jobs or I've been living over-seas. I heard the rotten news about the band break-up and scrambled to get a ticket but the only ones left were in Kentucky (I'm from Boston). I bought tickets on the hope that I could get there but I didn't have enough money to obtain a bus ticket and no one could do a ride-share. My friend in D.C. works at the clubs down there and managed to get us (through much struggle) guest-listed at the 9:30 club for the show. I somehow managed to get down there but after sitting through the Roger Sisters the show was cancelled before S-K came on. I had to leave on a plane ticket the following morning. I'm moving to DC in 3 weeks and was sure hoping they'd book the make-up show for after I returned. How sad was I when I heard you were playing the day after I left? *SIGH* I know, the WAAAAmbulence will be here any minute. I'm not the only one who traveled far to see you that night though. I met people that came from Colorado, Michigan, etc. I prepose one more show atleast...... Even if it's not for a year. Just so the fans that missed this tour get one last chance. :( Maybe? I dunno, you guys are awesome and I wish you the best of luck. I'm sure everything happens for a reason.

My first S-K concert was in Chicago in '96 just after Janet joined the band.  Since then, I've seen them once more in Chicago, twice in Atlanta, once in Nashville, and once in Portland where I actually got to meet all three ladies and had a copy of "One Beat" signed.  I can't put together the words to describe how I felt when I first heard the news so I won't even try.  I'll just hold out hope that one day, I'll be able to experience the power and joy of another Sleater-Kinney live performance. I've seen a lot of great bands over they years, but nothing comes close to Corin, Janet, and Carrie.

I feel fortunate to have been able to go to your shows. My favortie show was in Oly, on New Years Eve, you did a cover of rock lobster, since then I have listened to that song a total of a bazillion times. I first heard of S-K when they played at bumbershoot. I had heard that sonic youth requested S-K as the openin band, which is always a good thing. Dig Me Out is one of the best records ever made! I continued to go to S-K shows whenever I was in the states and they were playing. I was hoping to see them when I return stateside, but alas good things never want to stay.  Carrie has the most awesome stage presence I have ever seen/felt. Corin's voice is the first thing I feel in love with when I heard S-K. And of course Janet, the more I listen to S-K, I think she lifted S-K with her tremendous skill and my personal dream is to learn to kick out the jams like Janet does on the drums (whose dream isnt that?) I wish nothing but good things for the members of S-K, may all their dreams be realized. :) thanks for the rock n roll fun.

Its such a shame to see an amazing lineup such as u grrrls break up!! i know t happened a while ago....but im not much into the hitech world. i have seen u play several times, one of which was 8 yrs ago in minneapolis, mn. when i was almost 9 mos. pregnant, my feet were so swollen, i took my shoes off and put them on the stage and kept right on dancin'. needless to say, my daughter, who is now almost 8, loves your music and her favorite song is "modern girl". thank for all the great years and thanx for all yr inspiration for me and my daughters, god knows they need positive female idols such as you three!!!!
