At the fore front of my vision for Oxford's critical mass ride was the desire to just bring people together who maybe hadn't been given a reason to hang out up until now.If through this meeting of minds, political issues are raised and plans hatched then so be it. So we've been trying to encourage all to come ride. Cyclists, but hey if your transport is a board or roller blades we will embrace you with the same unflinching open arms.
The Critical Mass just gone will be remembered by me for the spirit and determination shown by a cool guy called Gianni. We were in East Oxford before I noticed a guy running along side our throng of cyclists. At first dismissing it as a coinsidence, after introducing myself I discovered he was there to be a part of our mass...... In an absense of a bike to ride he joined us on foot. I dunno, call me soft but I was so won over by his desire to be a part of something that I'd dreamed would be something people would just desire to be a part of. It was awesome. I was encapsulated in this thought for a moment before the second thought hit me...... He's running, while I (a runner) have my back side planted on a plateau of gel loveliness. I gave him my butchers bike, and the guilt free grin returned to my face.
I'd like to thank Alexis, and the Oxford Cycle Workshop crew for then racing off to re establish the one bike to one critical masser equilibrium, and saving me some leg work before the weekend....... And Thanks Gianni for coming along, you added to what was a fabulous and much needed May critical mass, after a bunch of wet miserable Oxford evenings. If you would like to join us on our monthly celebratary evening cruise around the streets of Oxford but don't have a bike feel free to email me !!!! oxfordcriticalmass@hotmail.co.uk You should also all feel free to add yer own tales to this blog !!
