I have moved on...honest. I'm happily married and have just been blessed with a new child. I'm excited about the start rehearsals for Our House. Yet, when people mention X Factor it is like i've got heart burn, like meeting an ex-girlfriend who had run off with your best friend.

I received a letter today and thought I'd share it.

Hi steve
could you please tell me how you got auditioned for the show please. I took my 14 yr old son on saturday to manchester auditions and this was the biggest rip off I have ever known, no one was interested in talent just crowd shots for the cameras, there was almost rioting in the stands due to dis-organisation, young girls crying etc, the cameras had all gone once they got what they wanted, and they tried to hurd us all through as quickly as poss after that, I feel such a fool I,m always so careful about been ripped off. So I looked you up on the internet as a lot of people are asking "what happened to that steve who won" well now I'v been and seen the scam for myself I dont blame you for standing your ground about your own music been recorded and I think you should let everyone know your side again cos you will have a lot more people backing you now as thousands have now seen what really goes on at the fake x-factor auditions.
my son has got over it as I did read a lot of comments on the internet before we went so I pre warned my son before we went, but it was still worse than I thought, and he was so stressed about going to school on monday for fear of ridicule, but he got through it, I'm so mad. I just thought I'd let you know how many thousands now think like me, a once lover and believer of the show, and I hope you can take advantage of this like they tried with you. all the best to you and your family mr steve

One day you will meet that ex-girlfriend and you'll smile and from the bottom of your heart you'll be glad they are married you're best friend and they are happy. I'm not at that point yet.

If you read that book I sent you, you will know why I am sitting here laughing.

I didn't think 14 year olds were allowed to enter anway.

You are more than XF Steve, I don't think you would like the place you would be in if things hadn't gone pear-shaped but it would be nice if the vitriol hadn't been spread into the media to stop you getting the credit you should have and the appearances you should have on the commercial channels and recording companies.

You have learnt recently that the things to value in life are what you have, - a beautiful loyal wife, an eatably gorgeous son and a faithful following of friends/fans who appreciate your voice and writing abilities. Feel the love.

They lost me as a fan of the show after how they treated you Steve- not just after your win either- but subsequently, like some sort of persobnal vendetta which I find so unprofessional and small minde- like some sort of scorned woman!

Forgive the broken record but I so wish you could publicise everything you witnessed- as this lady has said- so many people have now had their eyes opened about what really goes on.

This isn't the first time I've read about peoples' firsthand experiences of the set ups, fixing and the 'using' of the 1000s of people who give up their time to enter thinking it's a fair playground when it isn't. It's a sham of a show and I hope it's reaching the end of its shelf life.

Hi Steve, ....I went through the same thing at X Factor Auditions - I made it to the judges and got to bootcamp. I always had a suspicion when I was infront of the cameras thats omething was going on to set me up. First of all the shows producers said I couldn't sing the song I wanted, i'm a rock chick and wanted to sing 'crazy crazy nights' by Kiss and was told that I had to sing a female ballad instead. ....It was when the show was aired that I realy got angry as they had edited me to look like some kind of idiot or lunatic and of course the public also saw it that way and I was subject to some pretty harsh comments on youtube and abuse in the streets (being spat at etc). Thankfully the video has now been removed but only after 2-3 years of trying! ....What a lot of people do not realise is that all auditionees who make it in front of the judges are made to sign a contract to say that you can't have any say in the editing and you can't talk to anyone (universally) ....I agree with Sandra you should publicise everything. I heard you are meant to be writing a book about your experience - if you need any quotes from other contestants then I am more than willing to help you out in any way I can :) ....Thanks to some advice you gave me a few years ago about concertrating on my music I have now moved on and am in a local rock covers band and we are going in the studio to record new material soon. ....Many Thanks Again....Vickee x..

Hey steve, i still put myself through it every year, hoping to improve the acapella side of my vocals and get through to the later rounds of auditions. I feel ive got there now and could honestly say i wasnt prepared as much as i am now. But the producers look for a story more than vocals these days :-( ....Congrats on the little one. ....You were the original - no one can ever take that away from you.
