A week or so ago I was checking up on the url of the video of "Cruel Lincoln" when to my amazement I found a video had been made of my recording of Peter Bellamy's setting of Kipling's "Have you news of my boy Jack?", a track that I recorded a few years ago for the Prophecy/Auerbach Tonträger 4 CD set "Looking For Europe" (subsequently reissued by Index Verlag).
As well as being flattered and humbled to discover that someone had gone to so much trouble over one of my recordings, I was doubly delighted to discover that it was also a very good video that really does the recording justice.
My thanks to 7 Tage Regen for doing the video, and for subsequently going to the trouble of adding to it an additional photograph of my grandfather and his comrades that I thought would be suitable, here's the link to the video –

& for those who don't know it, here's Kipling's poem –

..> | "HAVE you news of my boy Jack?" Not this tide. "When d'you think that he'll come back?" Not with this wind blowing, and this tide. "Has any one else had word of him?" Not this tide. For what is sunk will hardly swim, Not with this wind blowing, and this tide. "Oh, dear, what comfort can I find?" None this tide, Nor any tide, Except he did not shame his kind— Not even with that wind blowing, and that tide. Then hold your head up all the more, This tide, And every tide; Because he was the son you bore, And gave to that wind blowing and that tide! |
