Well hello there!
As always, I begin with saying 'It's been so
long!', occassionally interdispersed with 'Wow, what a big month!'.
Truthfully, it's been a bit of both, but getting around to putting
together an email is always the hardest part. So here we are!
It's
July now, which means that it's time for the Amplified festival. Run by
Arts Tasmania, this is a great celebration of Tasmanian music. There's
a conference, oodles of shows and so many fun things on, I can't decide
which ones to go to, and when to sleep.
Let's start with the
Amplified CD 'Amplified - Sounds from Tasmania 2009'. I was so lucky to
have one of my songs 'Second Storey' chosen to be on the compilation,
as did my partner, Andrew. We're a complete little musical household!
It's chock a block full of so many awesome artists - Gretel Templeton,
All Fires the Fire, my faves Enola Fall, Let the Cat Out, Linc Le Fevre
etc etc ec! Go and pick yourself up a copy from Arts Tasmania in
Elizabeth Street. They're free and look (and sound) amazing!
While
you're there pick up an Amplified program and circle a few dates....
beginning with 16th July, 2009. Amy Kendall and the Kitchenhands will
be performing at the Republic Bar, with Nathan Wheldon and the Two
Timers and Joe Nuttall and Enola Fall. FUN FUN FUN! The band and I are
slightly giddy like schoolgels, but we'll contain ourselves. Barely.
Then, on Friday 17th July 2009, head on down to Elizabeth Mall in your
lunch break (12pm-2pm) and see the 'Amplified Live To Air' broadcast by
Edge Radio. See myself, Linc Le Fevre, Nathan Whelson, Abbey Doggett
and Dewayne Everettsmith. What an awesome lineup!
Log on to
www.arts.tas.gov.au/amplified
to vote for the Amplified Awards, which will be held on Sunday 19th
July out at Moorilla. My suggestions for voting: Enola Fall, All Fires
the Fire and Linc Le Fevre.
There will be some new fun posters
around town promoting these shows - as well as my solo show at Irish
Murphy's at 9.20pm on July 15th 2009. I'd love to see you there!
The Kitchenhands and I rehearse regularly and we've started a wee little YouTube channel over
here,
where we record a song every week for you after rehearsal. We've got
three from that series up there, and a few live ones as well. Subscribe
away and prepare to be dazzled as we pull all sorts of tricks out of
our hats every week. We also noodle around and try and take a decent
photo of ourselves. We're doing REALLY well so far, as you can see...
Don't forget to head over to
Facebook and become a fan, and you can always follow me on
Twitter
as well! And if you like what you're hearing, head over to
Reverbnation
and grab a widget to put on your website to direct people here. Spread
the word!
Have a lovely week, and stay warm - it's so icy out there! I'd
love to see you at a show soon, and do check out Amplified, it's going
to be awesome!
Hola!
