15/03/09 Carlisle Brickyard
First date of the tour! And We're still in our inflatables and hot tub van. Yep, we were all pleased about that! Alans back driving the van for us so we get there in good time, though it's only about an hour to Carlisle anyway. Everyone seemed knackered (for the START of the tour?!) Dave and I did an interview with a corpse (Was like that Stone Roses interview, except we were a little more sociable!) Got set up early, but didnt start sound checking til late, so only had 20 mins. We were well entertained though... Dave wrestling Glover (the soundman!) all over the floor of the Brickyard. Had a go at American football as well, didnt quite work out. Soundcheck didn't sound great but didn't have time to do anything about it, this was about quarter to eight and doors were 8.30 and the support bands had to check.
There was a coach load of people from Newcastle who'd been sat in the local pub for the last hour or so (the locals seemed to love that!) I got id'd about 10 times, much to the jealousy of the others. Went back to the venue to watch the support band (tonight its a band called Mazzoni from White Haven and Newcastles Night of Sevens) who did an excellent version of the Velvet Undergrounds Run Run Run. We played well considering the sound of the room, people seemed to really enjoyed it. The coach left soon after so we just sat in the dressing room for the rest of the night.
16/03/09 Glasgow King Tuts Wah Wah Hut
Drove back from Newcastle last night and got in early so was hard to get up this morning. Got to Glasgow in good time, probably the knowledge that our van now offers the new service of inflatable sumo suits aswell as bouncy castles and hot tubs, direct all enquires towards the myspace we'll get you a good deal. (we'll have to put up a picture of the van were driving around in...just so you know were not making this up!)
Got set up and had a sit down meal at Kings Tuts, it was Dales 19th bithday today so a cheeky glass of wine was drank. We'd already celebrated it a bit after midnight last night at the gig, so we were sensible! We were playing with a couple of Scottish bands called The Black Hand Gang and the Common Empire. Dave and Dale went off to do an interview for THE BANTER magazine. .
It ended up being a busy gig (we werent sure how well attended it'd be as The Enemy and Doves were playing Glasgow as well!) Everyone seemed to enjoy the show. We chatted on for a bit then headed off pretty much straight away. Didnt get back to Newcastle until 4am. All proper goosed. Started bringing the equipment back upstairs in the service elevator in the practice rooms and once again some of us ended stuck up in a lift (just what we needed!) until half 6.
We tried to get them out pulling the doors ourselves but that didn't work and its a 1930's lift shaft there was one technician who could fix it but he must've lived in the 1930's seen as he ended up taking just under 3 hours to arrive so we had to entertain ourselves for that long, Glover thought it would be a good idea to turn all the lights off outside of the lift and pipe freeform jazz music into the lift loudly. We found some voodoo masks and watched them through the window in the lift with them, Dale serenaded them. We all sobered up, at which time it just wasn't funny anymore! Escape commenced at half 7!
