Who Gives Kudos:

Wednesday, May 13, 2009
In May 2007 the Library of Congress gathered an unprecedented group of musicians together in Washington, D.C., to honor Paul Simon as the first recipient of the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Marc Anthony, Shawn Colvin, Art Garfunkel, Alison Krauss, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Lyle Lovett, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder and a host of others joined Paul onstage in a multicultural tribute to the music of a great American artist—and a great American art form.
This gala event, called "the greatest night of popular music ever presented in our nation’s capital," was beautifully filmed and captured with stunning 5.1 Surround Sound for a truly pure concert experience, and the resulting DVD, Paul Simon and Friends, serves as a capstone on one of the most celebrated musical careers of all time.

Paul Simon will go down as one of America's premier songwriters of all time. The Library Of Congress Award is merely icing on a wonderful cake made up of some of the greatest songs ever written. I have been a Paul Simon fan and student since the mid-60's, and I am still floored by so much of the material in existence. "American Tune" still brings tears to my eyes, and not a day has gone by since 9/11 that the song still plays in my head. I, too, am looking forward to owning this DVD when it is released.

Mr. Simon, thank you for sharing your gift with the rest of us. Mazel tov that you have been recognized.

All the best to you and yours,
