Current mood:  depressed

So, my vacations as of late seem to have a certain routine to them.  I fly or drive to Florida (Clearwater to be exact) to see my mom, after I'm here a day or two, she goes into the hospital.  As you can imagine this is not quite a relaxing time for me, or obviously for her.

On my current "vacation" my mom took a fall while on a senior citizen outing to see ice sculptures (In Florida mind you).  Anyway, she is currently unable to stand and was sick in the hospital all night for some reason.  Now she seems somewhat incoherent and out of it, I'm afraid she might have had another TIA (mini stroke sort of) or something worse.  They are doing all kinds of tests on her knee, stomach and head....we'll see what happens.

Anyway, as you can imagine this has plunged me into a bit of a deep depression down here.  I don't have my normal supports to go to and am trying to figure out how she is going to manage when she gets out of the hospital when I'm not here.  They are talking some rehab and I'm thinking they mean longer term rather then shorter term.  It's probably best if that's what they mean as she will have all the support she needs in that type of place, although she won't be very happy for a while there, it's better for her overall.

So, if you'd like to be a pal, give me a ring, or an IM or an email to cheer me up a bit, or if you just have any advice on aging parents that would be cool too.

uh, i know where you're coming from.  watching the relatives age is depressing and at times annoying as there is next to nothing to be done about it.  you have an infinite amount of patience and compassion compared to me, so i salute you. when you get back i'll tell  about my two second place finishes at the sean murray card games and how i skillfully went all in and managed to pull  four of kind on the river to beat a straight sitting on the board.  it was brilliant, you would have been proud.  okay, it was lucky but still, you would have been proud.

 Glenn,

I can tell you from personal experience and as a nurse that the decisions to be made are all difficult. People often wonder if they've made the right choices. My heart goes out to you.

If there isnt any family members or friends in Florida that can see her on a regular basis or make decisions for her, maybe it would be best to let her go through rehab and when she's well enough, have her move up here to a Nursing Facilty thats closer to where you are. Hound the social workers there to give you information on options. But , dont let them keep her there, if you feel its just for their financial benefit.

I know a few of the social workers here at different facilities and what the environments are like. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions regarding the matter or if its just the opportunity to talk with someone.

All my best to you and to your Mother

Jeanene

Peanut Butter and Kelli

No words of advice or wisdom.  It is my last week of school and I am really stupid.

However, I can always spare a cyber hug and some positive energy.

Make it home safe.
