Current mood: melancholy
Man, I've really neglected this blog thing. Does anyone read it? (I suppose they do - the hit count over here has gone through the roof). When the "Great MySpace Exodus of 2009" took place, I just sort of forgot to do stuff over here. Isn't everyone on Facebook now?
I refused to take down the MySpace. I like the blog function and I love the music function, two things Facebook has never been able to grasp. But apparently, I'm in the minority, because everyone else is hanging out over there.
Interesting things going on with me?
Well, I came within a HAIR of accepting a job as the Programs Coordinator of the Talladega Parks and Recreation Department. That woulda been WEIRD. It just sorta happened. There was no intent behind or cause for its occurance, just sorta fell into my lap. Until they issued a hiring freeze.
I've been blessed to spend one magical summer with the Barons. I've met a lot of great people. I've watch one of the finest teams in all of baseball. And the love/hate relationship I have had with the sport since the strike of my youth? It's WAY more love now.
I've seen a lot of great rock and roll. And some great films. Funny People was solid. Though I'm still confused how I feel about Judd Apatow. I mean, the most impressive accomplishment of Funny People is that it was EPICALLY long (checking in at around 2:30). But I never tired of it. It wasn't hysterical, but it was real. Which is sort of how I feel about all of his films. Todd Phillips is writing funnier movies, but Apatow is capturing something that could be real - he's very good at character development and dialogue. I think Apatow may be a more refined Kevin Smith.
I finally picked up the last Kings of Leon cd. I had been on their bandwagon early - since the first record. But for whatever reason, i had not picked this one up. Really like it.
But every day, I love the latest Isbell cd a little more. Each time I listen to it, I find something new that I love about it. Right now, I'm digging track 3 - "Good." But the whole thing is just beautiful. I highly recommend you pick it up.
Other things I'm really digging right now? Squidbillies, Hung, Entourage, boxes of waffles from Wal-Mart that only cost $3.23, making cheesy fries at night and piling them high with jalapenos and ranch dressing, waiting on my Direct TV guy to call me so I can set up a time to install (sweet deal - I get the top package for 5 months free, with premium channels if I agree to buy Sunday Ticket...which I was going to buy anyway).
Then again, as Ryan and I have often joked, Sunday Ticket really seems moot if you are a Cowboys fan, doesn't it? I mean, America's Team is NEVER on national television.
Great read I've been into? Things I Learned From Women Who Dumped Me. It's a collection of essays edited by Ben Karlin featuring a ton of great comics like Patton Oswalt and Stephen Colbert. Also highly recommended.
So, as of this writing, football season is, what, 33 days away? I don't know what the next 33 days will bring for ME, but I'll certainly be here, in blog country, to offer my opinion (if you care).
