Current mood:  optimistic

Ok, maybe not, but well, this has certainly been a new challenge!  Trying to create a myspace page that is...

Rob and Brady took a detour from their errand-running and made a "mega-junk food run" today and bought every unhealthy food they could find at the grocery store, and we all settled in for a quiet day of football, blog updating, music playing, junk food eating, and resting.  So here I sit with a giant bag of peanut butter M&Ms and a cup of tea, Brady nearby for assistance, trying to create a MySpace page.

Picture him saying, "Mom.... MOM!  Jeez, it's not that hard!" and "I didn't explain that part because it's so simple I didn't think I'd have to!" as I asked and asked and asked yet again how to crop a photo for my profile.

Hey, give your mama a break, huh?

I have to admit, I love this sort of thing.  And after looking at the pages of other unschooling mamas, I figured why not me?  I love any writing, but since I'm not much of an artist, I enjoy anything creative on the page.  I loved making my first website (now defunct) and learning html, and I love having a blog and visiting the blogs of friends and other unschoolers.  I also love creating newsletters, and other such print.

In the early years, I was tempted to put severe restrictions on "screen time" - and did, for several years while the kids were young.  But darn if we don't all just like this medium so darn much!  And my kids learn things I have yet to understand.  Brady has websites that help him with his guitar playing, and he updates his own websites while he IMs with friends while he plays online games.  It's a crazy world, but he's smart as a whip, so who'm I to say?  He can build a computer from scratch, create animations, and edit digital movies for special effects and sound.  And now, he's writing his own songs and performing them with some friends with plans to put the videos on YouTube.

So once again, my delusion of "knowing what's best" for him is exposed, and he proves that no activity is without value.  And here I am, joining in on the fun, having more than my usual share of "screen time" and loving every minute.

~Namaste~
