New Releases 20/07/2009 - 26/07/2009
Sigur Ros' Jonsi & (his partner) Alex have collaborated in a new album. Riceboy Sleeps is a delicate and ambient album more in tune with early Sigur Ros material than their later albums. This is out on CD and a beautifully packaged LP.
With a similarly delicate-electronic feel is the Bowery Electric album which will engulf you in My Bloody Valentine-type washes of sound and is really blooming terrific. This one comes highly recommended!
Magnolia Electric Co. take their classic country rock sound and flesh it out with a horn section. The deeply personal and introspective song writing echoes some of the greats including Warren Zevon, Willie Nelson and Neil Young. Title track Josephine near on knocked me sideways, another recommendation.
Felice Brother Simone Felice and George Clinton collaborator Robin ’Chicken’ Burke join forces on this their debut album as The Duke and The King. Recorded in a makeshift studio in New York State and then mixed by hip hop producer Bassy Bob Brockman (Notorious BIG) Felice and Burke bring together their folk and soul roots to create a unique blue-eyed soul sound whilst being inspired lyrically by their childhood experiences of New York, the trappings of fame and the downside of the American Dream.
