Knowfoowl Music Priority Album Release Artist: Rephrase Title: Little Victories Cat ..: FOOWLCD001 Genre: Dance/Breaks/Hip Hop For Fans Of: Fort Knox Five, Beatfanatic, Dublex Inc Release date: 03/02/07 thru Inertia & itunes Sydney producer Rephrase is back with his second album Little Victories, a remarkable Nu Funk outing that thrusts Jaime Olsen in to the international spotlight of the Funk Breaks scene. Since leaving us with the Beatcoaster album (on Casa Del Discos), Rephrase has been busying himself with remixes for a host of overseas artists and labels and producing incidental music for SBS World Cup football coverage with ex dB Chills bandmates. Earlier in 2006, Knowfoowl Music released the single Boulevard/Good Felelin on vinyl with remixes by Flevans (Tru Thoughts UK) and Parov Stelar (Etage Noir Austria) to rave reviews and club support from heavyhitters like Mo Horizons, Ed Royal and Kraak & Smaak. Since the singles release in May, the international accolades have continued to pour in, resulting in a slew of releases to be unleashed between now and early 2007. Little Victories is one mans work but has been a collaborative process involving a cast from around the world. Opening with Jellyjam, an old skool hip hop nursery rhyme, Rephrase calls in Pittsburgh MC J. Sands of Lone Catalysts to drop a few classic lines. Before long, you..re in for a rollercoaster ride down the bayou as Old Timer (a bluesy breaksy kind of thing) jets you down the Mississippi. Keeping a nod to the past, future single Since 1939 is a slamming big band breaks number that got all the hips moving when played by Flevans at this years Big Chill Festival. The albums first vocal track is current single Chase Your Tail and features Canadian MC Vandal and is followed by a number of tunes that show Olsen..s range, be it slinky House music or fierce Afro Broken Beat. NYC..s Negus Shabaka destroys the mic by singing, chanting and toasting his way around the hyptnotic and menacing What Happens On The Dancefloor Stays On The Dancefloor. Local guests include Merenia (signed to Fly Music), Vincent Sebastian (of Watussi) and Rick Robertson (ex D.I.G and eon Beats Project bandleader) who make Lip Service the chatchiest Flute led groover since Wars Spill The wine. Future Classic producer Jimi Polar comes correct on the keys ofboth What Happens On The Dancefloor... and The Return Of Jimi Fingers and fellow Rephrase live bandmate Noel Boogie laces Funky Little So & So and The Likelyhood with a dash of hisdeft cuts. Our good friends in Washington DC, All Good Funk Alliance (who have a long history of releasing Australian artists like Rephrase, Regal and Flow Dynamics on their Funk Weapons label) give us a second helping of Chase Your Tail as a bonus to the Australian-New Zealand release. Developed over a year and a half, Little Victories is an accomplished dance album for Australia and its somewhat ironic title should be by no means a sign of things to come for Rephrase. With an epic 2CD remix project in the pipeline, big tings a gwan for this super versatile producer. From his humble beginnings as a member of Kaleidavibe and winning the Roland Groove competition, Jaime Olsen has always impressed fans with his bright and catchy grooves. The album has already had two tunes licensed to overseas compilations (K Rush Vol 2, -Time Rec Italy and Nova Soul 3 - Germany) and with remixes to suit any format, the appeal of Little Victories is even broader.
