I adopted Stimpy 11 years ago from a rescue when he was 1 year old. His first owner gave him away and no one wanted to adopt him because he had a bad shoulder.
A few months ago he started having problems getting up and down the stairs. Medication helped in the beginning and I used a blanket as a sling to help him.
I phoned my vet this morning because Stimpy was having more difficulty walking. She gave me the number to a vet that made house calls and within an hour he was at my house and Stimpy was euthanised on my back porch. He picked up his limp body...that long tongue dangling! and carried him to his vehicle to take back to the office. His remains will be picked up later today and he will be cremated.
The picture below was taken 1-11-2007 when he was sleeping on my bed.

The last few months he needed so much care that now I feel so lost without him.
RIP my sweet baby Stimpy. I hope to be with you again one day.
SEPARATE LIFETIMES
"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan."
