Ok so i was really wanting something sweet today and so i broke out the old fashion cook book. thumbed through it to see if i could find something easy and tasteful. found something called burnt sugar cake. looked at the ingredents said ok i have everything there. and the proceded to break out the mixing bowls measuring cups and spoons utencils....etc....etc....

it was going really well. the burnt sugar was easy. (i know how to burn things really good.) the the next step said to take the egg whites beat them till it was a foamy texture then add half a cup of sugar on tbsp at a time. i was like ok i can do this. then i read on. BEAT TILL REALLY STIFF AND GLOSSY. i was like OMG IM MAKING A MERINGUE!!!!! never in my life have i ever made a meringue. i was scared. so it was doing good. then 10 min later it was still liquidy and just wasnt doing the right thing. so i dumped it out and grabbed 2 more eggs. the effin thing broke some of the yellow in it so i had to throw that away. got out a fresh egg and did it again. FINALLY 25 MIN LATER i have something that sorta resembled meringue. it didnt have the stiff peaks that alton brown talks about all the time(food network for yall who dont know him)(good eats is his show.).

anywho. i decided to leave it alone. i didnt want it to over beat and fall. so i set that aside and made the batter. then folded in the "meringue" poured it into three 8 inch pans. baked them at the temp and time it said to do. well i had a screaming kid who wanted it so when it was done i let it cool for like 10 min....BAD IDEA!!!. all three of them broke in half. pretty much crumbled in my hands. so needless to say i ROYALLY SCREWED UP!!.

but hey u can never say i didnt try.

come to think of it. i had some bakers cocoa in the cabnet. i could have made home made brownies. SHIT!!!!. oh well isnt this what they call lifes little lessons.

thx for listening to my little story i had to tell. its really good cake tho. at least i got the ingredients right..lol...better luck next time i alway say.

good night and i love all yall....

Good for you for giving it a try! And at least it was edible. *grins* Alton is one of my favs to watch, but then, I am a sort of a science geek. ;-)
I found a page that may help you in the future if you want to try a meringue again.
