Performers, Public Interviews, Panel Discussion and Exhibitions: The Biggest Celebration of the Irish Music Scene
3rd & 4th October at the RDS, Dublin

A stunning array of top music performers and industry experts is scheduled for The Music Show 2009 at the RDS, October 3rd and 4th.

The Music Show combines the biggest ever exhibition of musical instruments, equipment and technology with a selection of live music showcases, workshops, seminars, discussions, artist interviews, music product launches and exhibition displays from well-known Irish and international names.

Top rock band The Blizzards have been added to a star-studded bill that already includes Imelda May, Republic of Loose, The Coronas, Director, Delorentos, Villagers, David Kitt, The Brilliant Things and the cream of Ireland’s emergent music talent.

Another popular attraction will be The Rory Gallagher Exhibition, presented by Fender in association with XMusic. This will mark a tribute to the legendary Irish rock hero, who is widely regarded as Ireland’s most influential guitarist of all time. Pride of place will go to his trademark Fender Sunburst Stratocaster 1961 which he used throughout his 30-year music career, including 11 studio albums and countless concerts, and which cost him only $100.

A series of Public interviews will be a main feature of the show and aims to give the audience a deeper insight into the personalities and crucially the artistry of leading performers. Among those who will be interviewed about their life and work are Oscar winner Glen Hansard (Saturday 3), and Christy Moore (Sunday 4). Both artists will have guitars to hand. Horslips legend Johnny Fean, ace drummer Conor Guilfoyle and bassist Keith Duffy of The Corrs, Westlife and Boyzone fame, among others, will host instrumental workshops at the Show.

A series of panel discussions will cover such controversial and key topics as illegal file-sharing, the future of music, the relationship between music and cinema, song-writing and music production. These events will include rare and exclusive appearances from such industry luminaries as David Arnold (James Bond film composer), Nicky Ryan (Enya producer), producer John Reynolds, Jim Kerr (Simple Minds), James Morris (Windmill Lane founder), Barry Devlin (Horslips bassist and U2 video producer), Jim Sheridan, May Kay (Fight Like Apes), Vince Power, Ossie Kilkenny, Nick Seymour (Crowded House), indie artist RSAG and Bill Whelan (Riverdance), among many other music industry heavyweights.

Ireland's largest ever exhibition of musical instruments, accessories and equipment will see a host of new product launches. These launches include; Roland’s introduction of six new products; Marshall amps World Premiering their new MA series and the ingenious and Irish-developed iTab player, which will also receive its world premiere. Yamaha’s full range will include two silent pianos, and the Walton's Distribution stand will feature the legendary Gibson and Epiphone brands.

Speaking at the launch of The Music Show line-up last month, pop sensations The Script were lavish in their praise for the event. Said guitarist Mark Sheehan, “We didn’t have anyone to explain anything about music to us when we were kids. The Music Show breaks it all down. You get to put questions to people in the industry. Whether it’s writers or producers – pretty much anyone who has success in this game, you get to quiz them and talk to them.” The band’s singer Danny O’Donoghue added that he wished The Script had access to a resource such as The Music Show when they were starting out.

Music fans can also look forward to a plethora of public appearances, autograph sessions and impromptu live sessions – including a special guest performance from Sharon Corr – at the RDS on October 3rd and 4th.
