An interesting group of events here in Houston:
1. The price of gas has dropped like crazy over the last couple of weeks. Not that I'm complaining, but I'm starting to wonder of the alleged oil company conspiracies are true. This AM, Local 2 broadcast their HOT new Filipina Reporter that's from Chicago in a live shot from a gas station selling Regular Unleaded at 2.149/gal. I haven't seen prices that low since before Katrina.
2. The no chase policy that Chief Harold Hurtt instituted got back-pedaled on after a HUGE amount of complaints from private citizens. Hurtt has now been grilled by the Houston City Council and though he's defending his policy and comparing it to some other large cities with such policies (i.e. LA, Phoenix), most consituents feel it's giving criminals an excuse to run from the law without consequences. I have a feeling Hurrt, like Councilwoman Carol Alvarado, isn't long for his job.
