YOU ARE ONE OF THE NICEST MC'S ON THE MIC. HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE RAP GAME?
I've been rapping since I was 7 years old so I can say that's it's apart of me however it wasn't until I was 12 that I realized that this is I want to do this for a living. After that realization I started working on my craft by freestyling at the table at school then in High School I went to career center for vocational music and from there I learned the business side of the music industry as well as showmanship. From there I earned a rep just by performing locally to statewide to nationally.
WHO WERE SOME OF YOUR INFLUENCES IN THE RAP GAME?
Many! Outkast, Lauryn Hill, Red and Meth, Nas, J.Dilla, Queen Latifah, Minnie Riperton, Busta Rhymes, Fugees, Jay-Z, Earth, Wind & Fire, Pac, Ludacris, Wu-Tang, Def Squad, Marvin Gaye, Rah Digga, Stevie Wonder and that's just to name a few. Really, it's timeless music and it doesn't really matter where the source comes from.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE AND SOUND?
I like to call it Raw Elegance. It's a mixture of both, I love to give it to em raw but at the same time I can tone it down. I'm also a storyteller, I have so many stories to tell and I like to tell all kinds, anywhere from love to street shit.
ALOT OF PEOPLE SAY THAT FEMALE MC'S AREN'T GETTING THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE, HOW DO YOU RESPOND TO THAT?
I respond by makin dope music! That's the only way, our rep today is ridiculous, I can tell anyone I rap and they'll look at me like I'm crazy but that's okay because I'll be sure that my voice grabs their attention.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE STATE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS IN GENERAL?
It's corporate. No doubt about it, substance is gone but we still have some artists who have slipped through the cracks and I plan to be one of those artists. It's bad but I won't let that bring me down, I'll continue to make good music until someone takes notice.
ONE THING ABOUT YOUR MUSIC IS ITS EMPOWERING AND THAT'S NOT SOMETHING YOU SEE TOO OFTEN IN THE GAME TODAY. WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THAT ROUTE OVER THE TYPICAL BULLSH*T WE HEAR ON RADIO?
I'm about good music and good music is undeniable no matter who does it. Good music will outshine all that wack shit, trust.
WHAT SONG OF YOURS WOULD YOU SAY YOUR MOST PROUD OF?
Song 4 Rome. I love that so much because it's so much truth behind it, and I'm sure we know someone like that it doesn't have to be particularly a man because women can be the same way. AIDS is serious and I felt I had to speak on it.
WHO ARE SOME PRODUCERS OR RAPPERS YOU'D LIKE TO WORK WITH?
J.Dilla (R.I.P), I wish I had the chance to work with him, but it's all good, we'll work together when I meet him in the clouds. Also, everyone I named as my influences.
IN YOUR BIOGRAPHY YOU MENTIONED YOU TRIED TO GET INVOLVED IN AS MANY CIPHERS AND BATTLES AS POSSIBLE. DO YOU STILL ENJOY THOSE?
Yes! It really doesn't matter where I am, I feel I have to represent for my ladies so whenever I see guys in a circle ciphering, then trust I will be involved.
HOW HAVE PEOPLE RECEIVED YOU IN LIVE SHOWS?
Most definitely! Everywhere I go! The love is crazy and I appreciate all of my fans, and I know it's cliche but I would be nothing without them.
LET'S TALK PROJECTS, WHAT DO YOU GOT NOW AS FAR AS MIXTAPES OR ALBUMS AND WHAT'S NEXT?
Well of course The Feelin Mixtape Volume 2.0! Right now I'm working on an EP titled "From Ohio With Love", and three mixtapes! I've been in the booth heavy so everyone will be hearing new music from me sooner than later!
