Our travels took us over the Smokey's this past weekend to Charlotte, NC where we played two nights at River Run Country Club and one show on Lake Norman at Midtown Sundries. It was our second time playing both venues, and these two shows definitely rank up near the top for me as far as places to play.
It's funny, when we first got booked to play a country club, I thought there was no way The Goodfellers and I would go over in that setting. Anyone who has been to one of our shows knows that we like to get a little rowdy on stage. But the members of this club party their asses off and get pretty rowdy themselves. Always a good time playing there. Not to mention, they are excellent hosts and treat us so well while we are there. They provide Jack during the shows (which is always a plus...I think between the 4 of us during 2 shows, we killed 8 bottles this weekend...no that is not a typo), the food at this place is awesome and our drummer Rook, who is quite the golfer, gets to play a sweet golf course. Plus, the guy who books us, Brett, makes an amazing 5 star meal every Saturday when we're there. This time is was Kobe steaks, bacon risotto, green beans, and a couple excellent bottles of wine. Remember....I'm Italian, so good food is a sure fire way to bring a smile to my face.
Midtown shows are always cool because the club is right on Lake Norman. So you can see the lake from the stage. I love anything involving water (fishing, boating, skiing), so it's a pretty sweet deal for me. People can actually pull their boats right up to the club. They also have a huge stage which is always fun to run around on. Had a good crowd this time around too. Lot of people came in after the NASCAR races that night. We even had a surprise visit from our buddy Greg who books us in Canada.
Great weekend. Probably heading back that way in June. Pics and video from this trip coming soon.
