this is where almost all my time has been going... This is one of the main reasons why i am not answering emails or pretty much anything, lets just say by the end of the day i am beat and screaming for a shower.

So the run down is, the bridge has to be 20' x 10', has to appear to be some what rustic, and a temporary structure, meaning truly no tie downs to the ground, no rebar through the stones or anything...

4 different timbers, cut down from the forest cut to 20' long all ended up being different diameters, not to mention the different ups and downs of each log making them all very unlevel.

on top of the 4 different timbers, there are spacers to level the playing surface for planks to be driven on,  per 4"x 6" spacer you have 9 different variables to deal with when cutting, 4 different cuts per 4'' x 6'', 4 different cuts per each timber, and lastly the final adjustment to cut for the slope... slope being 2.5"s to center, then from center to exiting end 3" downward slope for water run off.  all just to get the proper slope so water will not freeze on top, and to level the whole surface.

keep in mind that the 4'' x 6''s are just spacers, and we have yet to add the planks... also you must not forget that everything you see in the picture above is all chainsaw, wood chisel, and hammer... there are no nails, no bolts... no nothing... just like a puzzel...

let just say for the 11 different spacers added, you have 97 different variable to deal with, each being a chance to truly fuck yourself,  and forcing you to scrap the wood or timber to start over with a new peace...

and to think i still make it to castings... and muay thai...

life is funny...

Building bridges is one of the most beautiful, constructive, rewarding things you can do; Both the physical and mental bridges. And I know you do both. You're a bonus to this world. And a real life superhero.
Keep up the good work!

Wow......now isn't that some extaordinary engineering! Those dovetail-type fittings must have been a bitch to get all perfect! Beautiful work Jonathan.

I am curious though....if you are not using any nails (very cool) how are you going to attach the surface planks? Hum....
And did you strip all those logs by hand? Damn! Isn't it amazing what you can accomplish when you dedicate yourself?
You have the talent, patients, imagination and tenacity to create anything you dream...So dream big baby! :o)
Looking forward to seeing a photo of the finished bridge!

Mar.

P.S.

That hot shower at the end of the day
must feel like heaven!
