Exert from a Wando High School newspaper The Tribal Tribune Entertainment section 9/17/08:Written by P. Carey, Edited by R. Garey

Steam bellowing out of the New York City storm drains ushers in the flock of anxious blues enthusiasts into the darkened club. The renowned "Lucky Cat", Brooklyn's premier blues club becomes increasingly louder as more and more people enter and more drinks are poured. The stage is empty. Tucked backstage is [High School] junior Wyatt Garey collecting his thoughts. This is the current Wyatt Garey Band lineup's first trip to New York, but Wyatt had performed in Brooklyn and Manhattan at barely 13 years old. and he's not at all nervous.

Surrounding him are the ensemble he will be leading that night. To his left, his drummer, Thomas Pickney, whose calm and collected aura allows his carefully articulated rhythms to spread through anywhere like butter. To his right is a recent addition to his band, Thomas Presley, who will be commanding the bass guitar for the night. Behind him, his rhythm guitarist, a tall white man with enough blues and soul to qualify him to play in the bluesiest of Memphis honky tonks. But this man behind Wyatt means much more to him than just someone who adds depth to his flowing guitar riffs. He is not just a band mate; he is Ranny Garey, Wyatt's father.

The four man Blues powerhouse, along with the Rev. Johnny King and the two African princess looking twins Pooh and Gem on background vocals, marches on stage, Wyatt ready to lead his troops into battle. The stage lights lower and Wyatt stands valiantly with his American Fender Stratocaster guitar neck in his left hand, and in his other a pick shaking with assured energy. Wyatt gives a quick glance to his father. The look is greeted with a smile from ear to ear, a reassurance that Wyatt Garey will leave the crowd with the lingering question: "How old is this kid? He plays like he's 30."
