I thought I'd post this little informative piece on how the Timberline Photoshoot went since it was probably the most interesting we've done so far.
Alright, so let me just start out by saying this was by far the most difficult shoot we've done in terms of physicality. I was everywhere. Climbing, standing, sitting, leaning, running, crouching, etc. Very rough (and I do workout on a daily basis, I promise.)
So... starting off as I walked out the door and checked the temp outside it was 110F. No idea what the humidity was, but I can think of a few choice words of what to compare it to that ran through my mind after every snap of the camera button. Also not to mention the crew was smart enough to bring water along for themselves... yours truly? Not that smart. Parched doesn't even begin to cover it.
A little fact about myself... I'm terrified of heights. So what was one of the first things I had to do? Stand on a railroad bridge, lean back and pretend to relax while my mind was screaming to hurry and get it over with and trying to pretend I was calm. "Don't look down" snap. "It's really high up here" snap. "Turn and look this way" snap.
Finally that was over with and I thought I was home free. Not so much. What was next? Climbing on stacked railroad ties that were about 2 stories high. So, up to the very top I went. Slowly. Very slowly. One small step at a time. Did I mention I'm afraid of heights? I won't even start to tell you how terrified I was here. The crew kept reminding me "Don't drop the guitar!!" Me? I was just thinking "Don't fall and die 'case that'd be bad". Good to know they all cared about me.
After that, I was dying of thirst. Nothing to drink in sight. I also have slight OCD so drinking after anyone else that offers just isnt' an option for me at all. So I suffered... and sweated... and came up with new four letter words.
Our next stop was a football field. I'm pretty sure we traspassed but we didn't see a sign so maybe not. But I'm pretty sure we did. Too late now. Anyway, the bleachers made some really good shots. But I had to sit on them... they're metal, and again with the heat. After I finally stood I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to sit ever again in my life. But alas, my hiney has healed and the ability to sit has once again returned.
Next stop? Baseball field. Woohoo, thought I. Water! I can get water from the dugout fountains! Not so much. It was hot water. Hot water and 110F? Not so pleasant. Needless to say I stopped after one big gulp of expectant cold water that turned out not to be so. But again, we got some really good shots. There's a candid where I was just goofing off at home plate; the guitar was my bat. But flashes of the dreaded 1990 Garth Brooks guitar bashing concert and all the backlash ran through my mind and I figured that'd prolly just be another bad idea. But it was fun.
Oh and the biggest issue? I was in such a rush to pack the day before that I didn't even pack the shoot clothes we had planned. So the clothes you see in the pics from this shoot are what I wear on a daily basis. I just had to dig through my bags and pull out something to throw on.
All in all we got some good shots and it was very interesting and a ton of fun. But also very difficult. We were exhausted by days end but it was all worth it. I'm sure we'd do it again.
