SPLIT HEAVEN / PSYCHO SAMURAI 2008 (BLOWER RECORDS)
Hace como 3 años, tocó Paul Di..Anno en México y hubo una buena cantidad de grupos abridores. A algunos ya los había escuchado, a otros los conocía solo de nombre y a otros más, no los había oído ni mencionar, como era el caso de SPLIT HEAVEN. Sin embargo, al final de la tarde, fueron ellos los que más me impresionaron y llamaron la atención. Y es que traían un bajista con un buen look y a un muy buen vocalista. Recuerdo haberle dicho a un amigo con quien iba, que este grupo tenía futuro y que valdría la pena apoyarlos, y no paré de recomendarlos con todo aquel que quisiera escucharme. En aquel entonces la banda no tenía ninguna grabación, así que me sentí muy contento cuando supe que editarían su primer cd. Ahora, poco tiempo después de haber visto la luz su primer trabajo, nos sueltan esta bomba entre las manos, algo verdaderamente inusual entre las bandas Mexicanas.
SPLIT HEAVEN es una joven banda Mexicana, originaria del estado de Querétaro y si quisiéramos hablar de influencias, tendríamos que hablar de bandas como Judas priest y Helloween. Estos chavos son buenos músicos, se les nota bastante bien acoplados y traen una composiciones que destilan Heavy-Power-Speed metal de corte clásico por todos lados. Rolas como "Immortal", "Psycho samurai", "The golden times" o "My soul burns forever" saltan al oído y se quedan en la memoria de manera inmediata.
Y aquí quiero mencionar varias cosas: 1) el material está cantado en su totalidad en Inglés, salvo una florida frase al final de la última rola (descúbranla por ustedes mismos jeje), 2) las rolas presentan interesantes intercambios de solos de lira y en ocasiones ejecutan solos a dueto, 3) las rolas tienen gancho a la hora de los coros o del estribillo, lo que te hace tararearlas, moviendo la cabeza a su ritmo, y 4) el vocalista es de lo mejor que hay hoy en día en el país, el chavo alcanza unos tonos bastante altos sin desafinar ni sentirse forzado.
La producción del disco es bastante buena, aunque quizá un tanto limpia, un poco más de "aspereza" le hubiera caído bien. Sin embargo, el disco es muy bueno en su contexto general.
Así que ojo con esta banda. Esta es mi apuesta para el futuro y seguro estoy que darán mucho de qué hablar en breve. Señores promotores: no los pierdan de vista, invítenlos a tocar, créanme, vale la pena.

No les dejo ahora una rola como suelo hacerlo, ya que espero sinceramente que traten de conseguir el cd original y lo toquen a todo volumen…

メキシコ出身の正統派パワー・メタル・バンドが'08年にリリースした2ndアルバム。前作では４人編成でしたが、新たにギターリストが一人加わりツインG.の５人編成になっています。前作も強力でしたが、本作は確実にレベル・アップしており、全編ハイ・クオリティな正統派パワー・メタル・チューンが怒涛の如く押し寄せてくる超強力作に仕上がっています。曲、演奏、ヴォーカルと全てにおいてレベルが高く、現時点でメキシコで最も世界進出の可能性が高いバンドではないでしょうか。いま一つプロダクションがあまいメキシカン・メタルの中で本作はプロダクションもしっかりしており、欧州の名のあるレーベルと同レベルの音質の良さを誇っています。メロスピ寄りのサウンドだった前作に比べ今回はより'80年代からの影響を感じさせる正統的なパワー・メタルになっており、それがまた鬼のようにカッコイイので正にガッツポーズもんのサウンドです。最近ではブラジルのHELLISH WARの2ndとともに最高レベルの正統派パワー・メタル・アルバムになっています。ハイ・トーンVo.もめちゃくちゃ強力！いやいやこのバンド、ただ者ではないですよ。近い将来間違いなくブレイクするであろう逸材です。メキシコ盤。

ROCK AND A HARD PLACE (U.S.A)
Classic Metal at it's best. These guys have so many elements of the Classic 80's Metal Bands. I hear elements of Jon Oliva in Eligio's vocals, and Metal Church in the guitar-work. You'll hear many other bands from the NWOBHM as well, from Riot to Priest and many others. Having said that, they do have their own style too. The vocals have a bit of the Spanish accent, which is cool, and gives it a little different vibe. The impressive thing about these guys is how they don't fit under any one category of Metal, they are progressive at times, a bit like Fates Warning, then they will come out and tear your face off with some blistering speeds. They're really a diverse and powerful band. If you are looking for some new Metal start thinking about Mexico, bands like Split Heaven do it right!

HEAVY HARDES (GERMANY)
Split Heaven wurden 2003 von Pedro Zelbohr (Gitarre) und Tomas Roitman (Schlagzeug) gegründet. Es ging sehr flott ans Schreiben eigener Songs und so konnten die jungen Musiker bereits im Mai 2003 ihr erstes sechs Tracks umfassendes Demo Lightstorm der Metalgemeinde vorstellen. Nach einem weiteren Demo 2005 namens R.I.P. mit zwei Songs und einigen Änderungen im Bandgefüge konnte mit Asenath Records ein Label für das erste Album gefunden werden. Jedoch erwies sich das Label als nicht geeignet und so heuerte man bei Blower Records an.
Mittlerweile komplettiert durch einen weiteren Gitarristen ging es nach dem Labelwechsel mit den neuen Songs sofort ins Studio und damit kommen wir zum zweiten Album Psycho Samurai. Melodischer Power Metal mit einem güldenen Sänger, dessen Stimme je nach Ausrichtung des Songs mal kraftvoll, mal hochmelodisch um die Ecke tönt. Die hohen Screams gehen wahrlich ins Mark. Im Gegensatz zu ihren Labelkollegen Voltax oder Strikemaster gehen die Jungs ihr Stück Metal weitaus differenzierter und melodischer an.
Der authentische Sound macht das Werk umso sympathischer, denn mit dem klassischen Neo Power Metal-Brei und dessen Einheitsklang hat die Musik und der Sound der fünf Herren nichts gemeinsam. Vielmehr merkt man den 80er-Jahre-Bezug, wo meist noch ohne Reißbrett musiziert wurde. So findet man ausgeklügelte Arrangements, fein ausgearbeitete Soli und akzentuierte Breaks vor, die nie Langeweile aufkommen lassen. Nachzuhören im treibenden "Iron Witch" oder dem Speedriffer "The Golden Times" mit Hühott an den Drums, was wir mit Iron Maiden und spätestens seit Iced Earth kennen und sofort lieben gelernt haben.
Dazu Twinsoli und man schwebt im Metalhimmel. "My Soul Burns Forever" bringt alle bis dato gehörten Trademarks der Mexikaner zum Vorschein, der Rauswerfer "Steel Liver" drückt zum Schluss noch mal in den Strophen ordentlich aufs Tempo, um im Chorus mit verhaltenen Bandchören zu gedrosselter Geschwindigkeit abzuhotten.
Wer Icarus Witch oder ähnlich gelagerte Bands zu seiner metallischen Hauptspeise zählt, darf bei dem Psycho gerne und beherzt zugreifen. Fernab von schwülstigen Zuckerkapellen ein Streif am Horizont, der mit den Jahren noch weiter wachsen und als glänzender Stern am Firmament erstrahlen wird. Wie bei vielen Latinobands ist Psycho Samurai in diesem unserem Lande über metaleros.de käuflich zu erwerben. Tütet die straight riffenden Voltax neben den thrashenden Strikemaster gleich mit ein.

Split Heaven was formed in 2003 by Pedro Zelbohr (Guitar) & Tomas Roitman (Drums). After recording 2 demos ("Lightstorm" & "R.I.P.") and a few line-up changes they signed to Asenath Records where they released their debut album "Split Heaven".
After that they signed to Blower Records and this is their first release on this great underground label. The band makes melodic powermetal with a very reasonable singer. When you compare them with their labelmates from Voltax & Strikemaster than it suits me that Split Heaven is not one of the many typical retro thrashbands of which dozens appear these days. No, the band is much more melodic and has some very good musicians on board!
The band do of course remind me to the mighty 80's when this kind of bands where playing everywhere. Gladly still a lot of newer (younger) bands dare to bring out this kind of metal. Bands to compare Split Heaven with are; Icarus Witch, Riot, Metal Church. Gladly the band found their own style and uses besides the regular powermetal also some progressive elements in their songs!
This is a damn good album which surprised me positive!! Hope to see the band someday live! Check them out if you're into 80's speed & powermetal.

Ueilà, siamo internazionali. Gli Split Heaven ci scrivono dal Messico e ci recapitano il loro secondo disco con l'intento, non ci credereste mai, di farsi conoscere anche all'estero. Dieci tracce di un heavy della prima ora, che richiama Helloween, “Powerslave” e Agent Steel, e spiega chiaramente perché la band sia stata chiamata ad aprire le date messicane di Paul Di'Anno. Preparazione sufficiente, chitarre telluriche, per un sound totalmente legato all'heavy ed allo speed tagliente degli anni '80.

Split Heaven to kolejna po Voltax i Strikemaster kapela z dalekiego Meksyku, której to płyta zagościła ostatnio w moim odtwarzaczu. Trzeba przyznać, że Blower Records dość prężnie promuje swoich podopiecznych w Europie. „Psycho Samurai” to drugi krążek w historii tego zespołu. Jestem więcej niż pewien, że większość ludzi, którzy posłuchają tych nagrań będą zaraz marudzić, że to kolejna - enta kapela jadąca po old schoolu, czyli do bólu wtórna. Zgadzam się, racja leży po ich stronie, jednak szczerze mówiąc, wcale mi to nie przeszkadza.
Słyszymy coraz więcej o zespołach takich jak Enforcer, White Wizzard, Portrait, czy Cast Iron, które mimo iż nie wnoszą nic nowego, mają swoją wierną publikę i z powodzeniem występują w całej Europie. Splt Heaven można wrzuć właśnie gdzieś w niszę z takimi właśnie zespołami.
Granie oparte na patentach klasycznego heavy metalu. Skojarzenia z Accept, Angel Dust, Steeler no i oczywiście Iron Maiden jak najbardziej wskazane. Fajne riffy, radość grania, niezłe melodyjki, całkiem przyzwoity warsztat muzyków, pozwala z przyjemnością odsłuchać takie kawałki jak choćby „Steel Liver”, „Immortal”, czy White Death”, no dla niektórych mankamentem może okazać się zbyt piskliwy wokal, ale można do tego przywyknąć. Tak czy inaczej, niby nic wielkiego, a cieszy. Poszukiwaczom ciekawostek z niższych lig – polecam.

Anche il Messico vuole la sua parte e gli Split Heaven ci provano. Provano a suonare dell’onesto e semplice speed/heavy che più classico non si può; e ci riescono a metà. Dopo lo shock dell’improbabile copertina (un Samurai messicano….psicopatico? mmm), possiamo gustarci 40 minuti di onesto heavy metal sicuramente suonato col cuore, il cui picco è rappresentato dalla titletrack, in cui la band abbandona le strutture semplici delle prime tracce, schiaccia sull’acceleratore e se ne viene fuori con un brano molto godibile. Ma questo non basta per creare un gran lavoro. Le lacune ci sono e si sentono. Prima di tutto la voce del cantante Eligio sembra decisamente fuori tema; troppo alta e squillante (in certi momenti sembra una voce femminile) e diciamocelo, una prestazione abbastanza sottotono. Musicalmente la band se la cava benino se non fosse per una produzione che penalizza di gran lunga le chitarre. Nonostante ci siano due asce nella line up, il sound è troppo vuoto, quasi poco amplificato. Peccato perché a livello di songwriting gli Split Heaven ci sanno fare, certe soluzioni per quanto non originali fanno partire automatico l’headbanging e questo è sempre segno di un buon prodotto metallico. Servirebbe un grosso step in avanti per dare un po’ di rilievo in più alla musica degli Split Heaven. Apprezzabile la coerenza e la sincerità del gruppo (che in parte salva la sufficienza) ma ora ci aspettiamo qualcosa di più concreto.

KIT-Gänger und sonstige traditionsbewusste Metaller aufgepasst: Hier kommen SPLIT HEAVEN aus Mexiko. Wer die ersten Savatage-Alben zu seinen Faves zählt, der darf sich nach dem Intro "Forged By Steel" gleich mal auf "Immortal" freuen, denn SPLIT HEAVEN-Sänger Eli Valenzuela hat diese herrlich spitzen Schreie drauf, die Jon Oliva vor seiner Fettmutation so herrlich zelebrierte. Der Song galoppiert köstlich nach vorne und der Refrain findet sofort seinen festen Platz in der Ohrmuschel.
"White Death" erinnert in Sachen Background-Vocals an Vicious Rumors, orientiert sich ansonsten aber eher an der NWOBHM beziehungsweise Judas Priest - nicht ganz so stark, aber der nächste Hammer wartet bereits: "Psycho Samurai" beginnt gediegen in Savatage-Manier, steigert sich dann aber urplötzlich in einen arschgeilen Refrain mit tollen Sirenen-Screams.
"The Wizard" und "Iron Witch" sind dann eher durchschnittliche Metal-Nummern, wobei aber gerade letztere wieder einige gelunge Gesangspassagen beinhaltet. Das speedige "Golden Times" wartet dann wieder mit hohem Headbanging-Faktor auf, ehe "Motorblade" an die "Shout At The Devil"-Phase von Mötley Crüe erinnert. Sehr melodisch entfaltet sich "My Soul Burns Forever" und zum Abschluss gibt's mit "Steel Liver" noch ein Thrash/Speed-Gemisch für alle Freunde des gepflegten Hochprozentigen - herrlich zum Mitgröhlen und auch wieder mit knalligen Sirenen von Valenzuela besetzt. Für Old-School-Fans sind SPLIT HEAVEN definitiv ein heißer Tipp.

That of the voucher Heavy Metal mélodique influenced by the 80’s with a very good rather clear song (that recalls WITCHCROSS the Danish group of the 80’s) and of good choirs "masculine and Heavy "!
Every title really is worked and leaves itself to discover; there always is a break, a change of rhythm or a solo that will keep the attention.
SPLIT HEAVEN avoids the too classic " riff/refrain" but does not forget what does the happiness of the fan of Heavy Metal 80’s ! Of the riff, refrains and soli!
Difficult one to give evident influences, for the group knew to realize an album rather personal while digging into a little everywhere ideas.
of course, I can quote GAMMA RAY, IRON MAIDEN for the rhythms and certain riffs, but of here of there one finds of the ICED EARTH (played sauce Heavy Metal) or even MOTLEY CRÜE (what's moreHeavy Metal) on Motorblade !
The titles are speed or mediums but always mélodiques! Ecoutez My Soul Burns Forever , the calmest one of the titles (but very Heavy) and one of my favorite ones!
The song of Eli VALENZUELA takes all his dimension and the acceleration on the solo is worthy of the big titles!
I encourage you to quickly to discover SPLIT HEAVEN one of the better hopes Souths American of the scene Heavy Metal 80’s ! To follow by near!
