Interview with BONEDOG. 1st issue/ 2005
1. Yer name and what you play?Let's see my name is Dwayne Aka Bondog. I grew up in the San Fransisco Bay area, lived there for 17 years. then half way thru my senior in high school My parent's moved to this complete shithole called Redding, California. When my parent's told me that we were moving to Redding, the first thing that entered my mind is "Will there be  a punk rock scene there?" So we moved to Redding in Decemeber of 1985. I start high school at this new school in Redding to finish my senior year. Needless to say I had liberty spikes at the time and me being in this complete rednekkk town, I was the outcast. Anyways within the first couple of day's at my school, I met a few people Leenah, Skot, Matt and Lito that are also into punk. They say "were gonna go see the Toy Dolls next week" and they ask me if i want to go? of course I say yes! so i guess things aren't that bad in this shithole of a town, at least there's a few cool kids that are also into punk, but I soon find out that Redding  had Never Ever had a Punk Rock show before! Never! Not one! I was used to going to see Dead Kennedy's and whatnot every weekend in the bay area, and it ws a complete shock to me to find out that there had never been a punk show in Redding before! So Skot, Matt, Lito and myself decide to start a band of our own so that we can play shows in this shithole town that had never that never had shows before. So we all bought instruments , Skot ended up singing because he couldn't afford to buy an instrument. None of us had Ever played an instrument before! So Matt bought a guitar, Lito got some drums and I bought a bass. A couple of months later we put on and played reddings Very first Punk Rock Show Ever! Yea sure we sucked at first, but we eventually learned how to play with No Lessons whatsoever or anything, all DIY self taught. Our band was called Snot Labeled. We later ended up playing shows with bands such as Operation Ivy, Mr. T experience, Lookouts!,Isocracy, to name a few. We released a 22 song demo tape and were a band called oOut Of Spite as well. Out Of Spite was a much better band musically than snot Labled was, and eventually Out Of Spite released a 6 song 7" e.p.record on red vinyl, it was completely D.I.Y. We did it all our selves.
2. How di you get into Punk? One day I was scanning the radio for sometthing to listen to and I came across these college radio stations down at the end of the dial that played "Punk Rock" That's how I got into punk, I first heard it on DIY college radio stations in the bayarea such as KFJC, KALX,&KUSF. A few of the punk bands that i heard for the very first time on the radio stations are Suicidal Tendenancies-"Instutionalized", MDC-"Dead Cops", Clash-"Garageland", Ramones-"Beat on the Brat", Pop O Pies-"Fascists eat Donuts", Nails-"88 Lines about 44 women", Negativland-"I am A Man With Four Fingers", to name a few.The year was 1982
3.Tell us about Hard Musical Bite?
Hard Musical Bite was an idea that Skot thought up the night before we went to a Dead Kennedy's/7 Seconds show. Skot printed up about ten copies the night before the gig we sold at the show. Needless to say it was complete crap, the typre of stuff that you take home and wipe with yer ass. As time went by, HMB rag got much betterand we ended up doing interviews with bands such as Verbal Abuse, Maggot Sandwich, GG Allin &th Scumfucs, Attitude Adjustment, Offspring (before anyone knew who they were), Vas Deferenz, Wasted Youth, OPbituaries, Dead Silence, Mr. T Experience, Isocracy, Feederz, Resist, C.O.C., Wimpy Dicks and Social UnRest. hard Musical Bite was a fnazine from 1986 until about ten or eleven years. We only did 10 issues though. maybe in the future I'll do another issue.
4. Thanks for the History of Dangerhouse. How do you know so much about it?( For those of you who saw the 1st isse, or haven't it had a Dangerhouse discography of releases..Bad Ass label releasing 15 records from July of 77 to January 80. Avengers, Dils, X to name a few. All 7"s, that require some looking..)
~Basically from being an avid record collector. I bought my first record in 1975, and then when I got into Punk Rock in 1982, I beacame more and more obsessed with vinyl records, and I started collecting obsessevly. when i heard bands on Dangerhouse for the first time in 1982, I knew that I had to collect all of the lables discography. I know so much about Dangerhouse records from collecting and studying information I could find on the internet after it was developed. I have colected the complete Dangerhouse discography over the years, and become very fascinated and knowledgeable about the label.
5. How did 924 Gilman start and your involvement? Gilman started in 1986 with people including myself that volunteered their time and energy into developing  a venue that was unique to other Punk Venues. 924 Gilman was initially funded by MRR fanzine which put up 40,000 to get it going, with the help of volunteers. My involvement with 924 Gilman was building the place, actually nailing nails into the place, attending member ship meetings and putting 110 percent of my time into the place. 924 Gilman is now the longest running all volunteer run punk clubin the world
6. advice for people wanting to build a DIY space like Gilman?
Time, Energy and Determination.
7. What activities are you involved with today (taken from first issue 05)
I got burned out on playing with bands for many years and Hard Musical Bite folded awhiile back , nowadays I spport the scene by seeing shows.
8.Favorite show you ever saw?
I've literally seen thousands of shows, but a few that stand out in my mind are:
Toy Dolls, Buzzcocks, Vice Squad, Chelsea, Misfits, Crucifix, Bad Posture, Dead Kennedy's, operation ivy, Isocracy, Crimpshrine, Lewd, Dickies, Code of honor, Sick Plesure, JFA, Ill Repute, Verbal Abuse, to name  afew.
