Hello stranger!

It's Back!
If you came in last Wednesday looking for the new Animal Collective LP and we were out, we are sorry.  That one kind of took us (and apparently Domino Records) by surprise.  We knew it would be big (we ordered more of it than any other new release vinyl we've ever had), but had no idea it would be gone in a matter of hours. We hunted high and low (mostly low) and found a few more copies that are now at each store.  If you want this record you better come and get it - we're not sure when more are coming.

Restock Spectacular
In the last week we have restocked with some of our biggest orders ever.  If there was something you have been looking for and we could not get it, it might be here now!  Most exciting are some cool reggae LPs and CDs from a new distributor, including a bunch of rad stuff from the Soul/Jazz label.   You'll also find some Dylan and Beatles LPs that have been in short supply but high demand.

A Smattering of New Releases
13 January
............

Late Of The Pier - Fantasy Black Channel CD (Astralwerks)....

Debut album from Castle Donington four piece. Formed in 2003, the band have cultivated a cult and dedicated following with their unique and genre-bursting style of glam, psych-synth and mind-bending Technicolour indie rock.  If you've been shopping in the Norman store in the last two weeks - you've probably heard this one.

............

This Will Destroy You/Lymbyc Systym - Field Studies CD (Magic Bullet)....

This Will Destroy You contributed two brand new songs: the bombastic and menacing "Brutalism & The Worship Of The Machine" and the heart-warming, hypnotic "Freedom Blade." Lymbyc Systym unveiled three astonishing studies in melody in musicality ("Processed Spirits," "Notations" and "Narita").

Howlin Rain - Wild Life LP (Three Lobed) ....

Two fifteen minute plus monster jams. The first is an amazingly inspired and completely improvised wailing twin guitar, rock meditation on Paul McCartney's "Wild Life." "Black Sangria" rounds out the disc with a completely improvised piece covered in heavy jazz fusion and free, Latin jazz rock overtones. ....

.. ......

King Khan & BBQ Show - Animal Party 7"+Book (Fat Possum) ....

Includes the tracks “Animal Party” and “God of Raisins,” along with a 15-page coloring book with art by Mathieu Trudel. ....

.. ......

Various Artists - Oh Graveyard, You Can’t Hold Me Always LP (Mississippi) ....

Compilation of hard to find gospel recorded in the 1960's and early 1970's. ....

.. ......

Young Disciples - Eccentric Soul: Young Disciples 2xLP (Numero) ....

Now available on vinyl. By 1967, East St. Louis, IL, once dubbed an "All American" city by the US Chamber Of Commerce, had become St. Louis, MI's evil twin. Drug addiction, unemployment, and vicious gang activity put a dark and heavy lid on a bi-state area that once cooked-up world-changing talent by the likes of Chuck Berry, Josephine Baker and Miles Davis. But both cities still spawned heroes, and Allen Merry was one of them. Already a living legend for his early work with Ray Charles and Ike Turner, Merry channeled his talent into teaching, forming the Young Disciples through the South End Community Center to keep kids off the streets, out of the gangs and into the studio, where young men and women spiraling downward could ride the spiral groove upward on Merry's own Yodi, Gateway and Merry labels. Every sweat-drenched recording included here emerged from this grass-roots organization that changed, if not saved, lives.....

T
his month's Full Tilt Boogie:
Noot D'Noot - Goofer Dust
Noot D'Noot, with their ever rotating and mutating orchestra, creates a wholly original and satisfying psillicybin-laced stew. It's as if a vintage Funkadelic jammed with Fela Kuti and Hawkwind, and the whole shebang was remixed by Air.

Belle & Sebastian - BBC Sessions
This lovingly mastered collection of Belle and Sebastian's radio sessions for the BBC from 1996 to 2001 captures some glowing treasures. At the time, the group rarely performed live, so all these songs are noticeably different from the studio versions. A limited, deluxe, double CD edition is available which includes an entire live show broadcast on BBC Evening Session in mid-2001.

The Fireman - Electric Arguments
Electric Arguments is an eclectic and varied album consisting of 13 tracks recorded in 13 days. Each track was written and recorded in the space of one day with Paul McCartney playing all instruments bar one track, which Youth plays guitar on. Paul and Youth went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound. The project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band.

The 88 - Not Only...But Also
Founded in Los Angeles in 2002, The 88 have released three albums including the most recent, Not Only…But Also. The band is best known for their staggering 40+ music placements in film, television (Gossip Girl, 90210, Grey's Anatomy) and advertising among others. Aside from extensive touring in North America, they have appeared on numerous national talk shows including Jimmy Kimmel and Last Call With Carson Daly. The 88 are Keith Slettedahl, Adam Merrin, and Anthony Zimmitti.

Bloc Party - Intimacy
Intimacy is a fittingly up-close title for an album that is, immediately, in-your-face and in-your-ear. Bloc Party's third album is a thrillingly radical record, bristling with percussive innovation, scorching riffs, orchestral sampledelia, and biting emotional candor.
