Did you ever notice that "what the h*ll" always seems to be the right decision?
In my case, thats usually how it goes.
I had another crazy week I thought I'd share.
A while back my friend Becky asked if I was going to try out for AI in Omaha. I said no because it is so random -but we agreed to do it together and experience the madness. She tried last year but got sick before she sang. SO Becky and I spent four days in Omaha .
well let the madness begin.
We arrived Tuesday and checked into our hotel and went to bed early because we decided to get up at 4am and be in line by 5am.. The rules said no one could line up before 6 but apparantly, you dont have to follow the rules because there were about a hundred people in front of us.. not all of them auditioning but still.. If you brought someone along, like your mom, they had to register for a wristband as well. The earlier you register the earlier you sing.

Waiting to Register!
I wanted to register early so I could be out of there earlier because I had tickets to the Sara Evans show and a meet & greet.. i have priorities you know. I figured we probably wouldnt make it very far since there are like over 11,000 people auditioning.
So We get our wristbands and were back the hotel room by 8am.. we ordered some breakfast and went to bed. Thursday we had the day off before auditions started on Friday.
ON thursday we decided to write a funny song about American Idol and our week there. ITs pretty funny. We are going to record it and make a music video to it in a little bit.. stay tuned
So on Friday we got up at 2am and were in line a little after 3
I brought my guitar because we were going to sing our AI song for folks while we wait. When we got there an AI guy told me I couldnt have it. The rules state however you can use it in your personal free time, just not for auditions.....which i knew but he told me I couldnt even take it in the qwest center so I asked the HIlton across the street to store it for me.. BUT i kept it in line a little while and people loved our song! There was a large group of African American singers and let me tell you. They were SO good.. better than most of the contestants on Idol.. They were fun. we sang with them a little bit before we were herded into the Qwest Center.

All waiting to go in!
SO after a while I took my guitar over to the Hilton and about 15 min later and AI guy comes up to me and asks if I still had my guitar.. I replied "No, you made me put it away." He told me to go get it so AI could film our song!! SWEET.. we just may make TV

Singing- the AI Song !
Brandon Rogers was there too filming for TV GUide channel so we might be on that too.

Me & Brandon Rogers from last season
Let me tell you- we had to do a lot of takes with crowd scenes.. It was fun but tiring.
So we do all that and then go into the Qwest Center where we are loaded into our seats and then we have to sing Born in the USA like one million times so they can film that and shout a bunch of stuff like.. welcome to Omaha...etc...TV is hard work

Everyone waiting to sing :)
So Becky and I are in the first three rows that get to audition. I suppose singing that early doesnt help when you have 11,000 more people behind you to go but we did it.. You are grouped in groups of 4 and then placed in front of a table on the main floor and you only get to sing for about 15-30 sec. .So not much time. Well my whole group go the axe which is ok because i really didnt have any expectations ..
I just did it for the experience and I was happy I could still make the concert. When we were leaving I noticed a lot of excellent vocalists that were singing outside leave with Becky and I.. I couldn't believe that some of them didn't make it..

With Edward- he liked our song!
I just cant believe all of the people that fly in from Seattle, Houston, etc just to sing for 20 sec when its such a random picking of people... I guess if thats your dream, nothing will stand in your way. MOre power too them. I just enjoyed hanging out on the street singing and playing with strangers. Way more fun. I was hoping to see some crazy people too.. the ones that get all dressed up but I only saw 3- and one guy dressed up in a cow suit and was "simon "cow"l" kinda funny.
But the only disappointment was that Ryan Seacrest wasnt even there so we didnt even get to see him and i guess you have to go back in October if you make it through the two rounds to see Simon, Paula and Randy and apparantly they dont even really pick who goes to Hollywood, the producers do.. ironic huh.
So Friday night I went to see sara evans in Sioux Falls and it was VERy good and I got to go back and have Sara sign my guitar.. My pic isnt that great because , need I remind you I had been up since 2am and I was on my 22nd hour of the day
But oh well.... still fun..
