Howdy Folks,
I've heard people talking about wanting to hear some Robin Davis guitar playing on Myspace. Well Rock and Rye is lucky enough to play with the guy so I've posted some songs here that feature him.
First there's a song that I learned off a Wyatt Rice album called He Died a Rounder at Twenty One. I'm singing it but Robin throws in some tasty licks.
Next is I am a Pilgrim which Robin just kills. This live version also features Chris Eldridge on guitar for the second guitar solo. Rock and Rye was opening up for The Infamous Stringdusters on 3/8/07 and Chris joined us for this one. Robin is singing lead on this number which is always a treat.
Raleigh and Spencer follows with me singing lead. This song is from the same 3/8/07 show and Andy Hall from the Infamous Stringdusters joins us on Dobro. Towards the end of the song there is a solo exchange between Robin and Andy that is pretty darn cool.
The last song is an oldy but a goody. It's an old lineup of Rock and Rye with Chris Becker on mandolin and Rob Lawrence on guitar and singing. C & O Canal is an old Seldom Scene song and a rare John Starling original. Rob and I grew up as neighbors in Virginia and we lived right down the road from the Birchmere were the Seldom Scene were basically the house band. We both have fond memories of seeing the band many times so I'm putting this song on here in memory of those good times.
Enjoy! -David Smith
