I absolutely loved the movie & was really touched by her speech.  For me, as an indie artist, I can only fathom how amazing it would be to see your dream reach it's fruition, here's what she said:

"Hi everyone. I just want to thank you so much. This is such a big deal, not only for us, but for all other independent musicians and artists that spend most of their time struggling, and this, the fact that we're standing here tonight, the fact that we're able to hold this, it's just to prove no matter how far out your dreams are, it's possible. And, you know, fair play to those who dare to dream and don't give up. And this song was written from a perspective of hope, and hope at the end of the day connects us all, no matter how different we are. And so thank you so much, who helped us along the way. Thank you."

..so here's to possibility

I thought it was quite a lovely and eloquent speech she made, as well.. and kudos to Jon Stewart for giving her the chance to make it.

i was very moved by the speech too. I think she could not have said something so simple and meaningful in a better way. Its not even her first language and i think she'd like do better than many other 19 year olds. A great pure spirit and person...its refreshing.

Sorry tried to post this before but my computer booted me out...

As an independent artist, the struggle to keep commerce from influencing expression is difficult. This film was untouched. Even though I work within the commercial world of music my indie peers are my heroes. As I sat and watched Markéta Irglová's and Glen Hansard's names announced at the Oscars the hair was standing on my arms. Markéta Irglová is a beautiful representation of this genre and for artist everywhere. Her speech was truly from the heart. "Broken Hearted Hoover Fixer Sucker Guy" Glen Hansard's speech was just as moving. His energy came from total disbelief "What are we doing here?" and I loved how he ended with "Make Art" "Make Art" on a Hollywood stage. Both of them beam with innocent passion. I am hoping for more of this from Hollywood in the future.

....Excavated treasures.....Coolest among the cool.
