J.R. had a successful debut and you all are to thank for that! But now we are faced with a new challenge: how to spread the word about his talent and new music so that this music will spread and the network of fans will increase. Here are some ideas, for those interested:

1: We've just added a promotional tour poster to jrrichardsmusic.com's tour page. Download it, make copies at your local print shop and distribute them in advance of J.R. coming to play a show in your area. Good places to distribute the posters include coffee shops, music shops, university campuses, book stores and at the venue itself. Besides those- be creative and get the poster up in high-traffic areas (as long as it's allowed).

2: If J.R. is scheduled to come to your town, call your local radio stations and let them know about A Beautiful End and that J.R. is coming to town for a live performance. Putting in a call to your local newspapers wouldn't hurt, either. :)

3: Go to alternativeaddiction.com and vote for the song 'A Beautiful End' on their Top 20 song chart. It's just been added and voting is quick and easy. 5/26 UPDATE: The album review is now up and will be added to the Top Album list starting June 1. At that time, you'll be able to vote for the album in addition to the single.

4: Even if you didn't buy the album through iTunes, be sure to post a review or a rating. This goes for other outlets like amazon and rhapsody, once the album is available there on the 26th of May.

5: Be creative! Please share any ideas that you have about additional places to distribute posters or copies of J.R.'s CD, success stories and words of caution if you run into problems. This is your forum. You can also use this space to coordinate local teams and/or try to meet other fans in your area in order to form a new team. Just introduce yourself, your city and what you want to do. Knowing this community, it shouldn't take long for you to get connected with people in your area, even if they aren't on Myspace. Word of mouth travels quickly and these are some of the most friendly fans you'll ever meet.

Thank you all for your dedication and persistence. Let's not only keep J.R. in the charts but work to see his album climb!

One of the things I did when "Dishwalla" the album came out was go to my local Borders bookstore and ask them to play it in the store.  They allowed me to put up a display and played it in the rotation of their in-store music.   Also, Borders was willing to put the music on one of their listening stations for private listening.  I used photos & logos provided by the band, as well as a couple of my own photos for the display.  I believe we sold several copies directly from the display.  Here is a link to photos of the display and flyers I created and/or displayed for the Dishwalla album. Dishwalla Street Team photos

If someone needs some photos of JR, I have quite a few from Dishwalla days in my photobucket account Opaline1 on Photobucket. If you'd like to use one, send me a message asking for permission.  That is if JR is alright with it too.

Now that I live in a smaller town, I might see if the local Hastings will do something like that.

Getting it playing in a store, especially where they can ask about the CD and purchase it is very helpful.

your Dishwalla display is famous around these parts, Nanette. Exciting to hear that you've got so much material available for fans' use and that you're willing to share. thank you, and great ideas!

I hope to have more recent photos available at the beginning of June, as I am planning on flying to Orange County for the shows at the end of the month. ;-)

Wow! Great idea, Nanette! I'll try and do that, as well as calling the radio stations and platering posters around town. One thing I did last time they were in town: I made flyers and put it on every car that was parked close to the venue on the days before and the day of the show. Maybe we can reduce the poster and use it as a flyer.
Btw, I'm in San Francisco, if anyone wants to work with me on this.
Thanks!

great idea, Luciana. The poster is 11x17 so you could either run black and white copies at the original size and fold in in half for placement or have it sized down to an 8.5 x 11 sheet and then run flyers like you suggested in black and white or color. very cool.

I promote for my work...because I have to as an employee...but I'm gonna secretly take advantage of that time to promote for J.R. I'm in the Chicago area and since he's coming to Chicago, it would be a great idea. The places I promote for work are at bars, bar and grill type restaurants, local hangouts, and nightclubs...that sorta thing. I told the radio station 101.9 The Mix (WTMX) about J.R. last year or the year before-- they play Dishwalla so I figured I'd tell them. When J.R. announced his Chicago show, I sent The Mix an email about J.R. coming to Chicago, his solo album, and his album's scheduled release date. The Mix is a popular radio station in Chicago, so I will continue with that. A couple of times Dishwalla played on WGN Channel 9 news in the morning here in Chicago...I think J.R. should do that when he comes out this way next month. :)

Just a comment about...

3: Go to alternativeaddiction.com and vote for the song 'A Beautiful End' on their Top 20 song chart. It's just been added and voting is quick and easy. Should it become available, vote for the album under Top Albums, too.

When you vote, you can vote more than once by using ALL your different email addresses (I personally have three) and vote every day.  Also, the album is not on the charts yet, but keep checking.

I hope they review the album soon.

That same site allows you to share his song "A Beautiful End" through email. I sent it to a few people a few days ago when I first voted. So far I've only heard back from one person, my sister-in-law, and she likes it...OF COURSE!!! :)

thanks nanette. i've written chad at alternative addiction who we've gotten to know as a contact throughout the album's development. i asked about the album review and being able to rate the album among Top Albums. hopefully that will speed the process for both.

Anyone knows if there are some chances to see J.R in Europe as well??? I am a massive Dishwalla / J.R. fan from Italy and it's such a shame that very few people knows about his great talent... I had to buy all the Dishwalla's cds from the net... everytime I went to a local music store (not only here in Italy) and asked for a Dishwalla's cd, the guy working in the store looked at me like I was asking a cd coming from Mars!!!!!! :P
Btw... I will do all my best to promote his cd here as well... in the hope that he will come to do some promotion in Italy /Europe as well sooner or later ;)
Hugs to you all,
Deb

Have you thought about making an Artist page for JR at Imeem.  The nice thing about it is that you can make a music player and people can add the player to various sites.  Seems a good place to check out the music.  Here's the link.  https://www.imeem.com/signup/

Also, I'm confused about someone mentioning to vote at Alt. Add. using several email addresses.  I was always under the impression you could vote as often as you wanted there.  Anyway, I've been voting.

If JR ever makes it back to New York, I'll do whatever I can to promote the shows :)  Still loving the album and still can't stop listening!

I've made posters and flyers specifically for the San Francisco show (I used the Red Devil Lounge template with their consent, in order to be cohesive with their other posters/flyers and recognizable by their audience) If anyone wants to help spread the word, let me know. I should be hitting town the next couple days!

Sounds great. I'll try to get on it as soon as I can. I have a billion things to take care of right now, but I'll make time somehow. I need something more positive to work on right now anyway. I love Opaline's idea for the Borders bookstore. I'll see what I can do. Thanks Opaline, for sharing that idea.
