Thursday, July 23, 2009
Hello there lovely myspace friends!!  Utu here,  well its been a while since we have posted anything, not sure we even have the room here to type it all in...First we hope that the summer is doing right by you all and that all the good things in life that are free are keeping  you happy.
I guess Ill just start listing things that are new or coming up...We have recorded a new CD, and it is easily one of the best projects we have ever done. Still mixing it etc., hope to have it available with in a few weeks, obviously we will let you know when its available..but we can tell what it called.."Tribal Magik"
On the subject of CDs, we will no longer be selling Volume 2 or Passage, those are going into the annals with Volume 1...there are some supplies left, but past that, they will be no more...we will however still sell The Epic; A Drum Opera.
We just finished two weeks of travel and magik, starting with The Spirits of the Earth Festival here in Ontario, we had a lot of fun there( even though our show sucked..it happens *lol*). The highlight being we brought a friend of ours, no other than Prince Bamidele Bajowa from Nigeria. We serve many gods and spirits in this troupe, but lately the Orisha and Loa nation of spirits has been really shining down on us. It was the divine hands of the Orishas that brought Prince Bamidele and the DRD together, with a little bit of bleed from the Niagara Voodoo Shrine, but together none the less. And for a great purpose too. Go to the Niagara Voodoo Shrine (in our top friends) and read the blog there for more on our plans together. Our time with Prince Bamidele has been very cherished, and we are truly blessed to be working together. The DRD, myself from the Voodoo Shrine and Prince Bamidele offered a wonderful ceremony at Spirits of the Earth, all the pics of that are in our photos, so please check them out and enjoy, it was very inspiring. The ceremony honored both the North American voodoo traditions as well as the traditional Yoruba of which Prince Bamidele is royalty. It is in Yoruba land Nigeria that the gods and goddesses  of voodoo once walked the earth, and their original shrines still exist.  It was amazing, and there will be many more to come from our two camps. Keep your eyes on our site or the Voodoo Shrine for details as they come.
Big thanks to Fox and Tamika of Spirits of the Earth for once again hosting not only our troupe, but Prince Bamidele as well. We had  quite a table during the mid evil feast they have there each year...again check the pics. Thanks again Fox and Tamika, you and your staff were wonderful as always.
Nice treat was that our good friends The Gypsy Nomads were at Spirits of the Earth as well...I wonder how that happened..*lol*  they rocked as always, and they will be back in Canada again. The Nomads in fact came to rest up in Niagara for a couple of days after the fest, we had such a great time, a little hard earned R&R.  Then we were both off to Sirius Rising, no rest for the wicked...we love them so much, it was a special two days..
Sirius Rising..wow, where to begin...Well, the festival has now adopted the dragon as their festival totem, and not just any dragon..the one we here in the DRD know so well. The water serpent from which we take our name has many guises, he appears in the mist of Niagara Falls, appears as a water monster in both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, as a mascot for sports teams and a golf course, and now as the dragon of Sirius Rising. The wonderful Teresa Guzman whose family owns Brushwood had told us that last year, so we knew it was coming, but it was still so surreal to experience.  The dragon we have been honoring since before the DRD even started in the Niagara Pagan Mens Circle, right there being honored on a scale that was hard for us to put into perspective. The Brushwood property sits on the hills just above Lake Erie, and Teresa had said that after listening to and reading our CD "The Epic; A Drum Opera" that it really hit home that what they were feeling all the time on their property was an actual local entity.  When we came home across the Niagara River it hit us like a ton of bricks, thats once again the kind of manifestation that keeps this troupe religious.
We have to thank Teresa and all the staff at Brushwood for out of this world hospitality and inclusion. We also want to thank the Dalton camp for once again feeding us and giving us shelter when it was needed. A big thanks to the incredible sound crew of Bob and Roofy, they really made us sound awesome! Also our lovely Midnight, always a pleasure! The other bonus about Sirius Rising was meeting up with our beloved Mambo Madison and her entire temple "Humfort De La Flameballah Wedo"...thats voodoo for The house of the fire serpent *lol* ...Together we did a ritual, a parade for the spirits with the sacred dolls of the Orishas and Loa, which they brought all the way from North Carolina, and they were even brought to the concert we did, where we dedicated the show to the Orishas for all their blessings..as well as the dragon. After sucking big  at Spirits, we made up for it big f#*kin' time at Sirius, helps with all those sacred dolls and our dragon everywhere...that and an awesome sound crew and our man Davor, who has been with us many times this year, putting together an incredible light show too.  To spend time with the entire temple was amazing, and pretty rare for all to be there at the same time. We will see Mambo Madison again in a week, which brings me to the next point...Cornstalk..
We will be at Cornstalk at the historic Wisteria property in extreme southern Ohio..how south?..we have to go through west Virgina to get there.  Check our show listings, we expect a lot of folks we know to be there, in fact Cornstalk is looking to turn into the event of the summer based on who is coming and the sheer amounts, we cant wait. While there, we will actually be hosting a live streaming video show for Paganspace.net, the concerts will be broadcast as well, so tune into paganspace.net if you want to see some antics, and we promise antics, and some serious stuff too.

Last thing...a reminder that we are hosting a mens circle weekend at the Brushwood property, home of Sirius Rising and Starwood on the weekend of September 18 to 20th, looking to be historic in more ways than one, check our show listings for more details or email us. You wont want to miss this.
Thats all for now, or at least all I can type...we love you very much, we hope you are enjoying summer, and we hope even more that we see you somewhere soon...oh yah, "Faerie Magazine" is doing a feature on us..pretty cool! should be in the next issue, will let you know when...much love and the biggest brightest blessings from everyone here at the Dragon Ritual Drummers!!

*A-hem...* Your concert at Spirits did NOT suck...thankyouverymuch. It was awesome, I loved hanging out with you guys and it was my honor, once again, to be photographing for you. Hope to see you all again soon! The ritual with Prince Bamidele is something I will never ever forget. So glad to have been able to capture that one, too!
