Yay Summer!
So what up...let's see. Our collaborator and renegade animator Maya Erdelyi (who directed the Godda Get It Video) is working on a new piece for us...more on that soon.
Been tracking more regularly with Monica. We just finished a song called Wulf and Kitten just waiting on cello and guest guitarist Eric Rodgers from Midnight Masses and its a go. We just finished work for Mike Ladd's album (which I must say is benefiting tremendously from all the pushed back release dates). This week we step away from the downtempo stuff and start getting to the muscle of the record....can't wait. Our goal is to have 4 songs complete by the time Mon hits Europe again next month.
We had our "welcome back from self-imposed exile show" recently at Fat Baby with the incredibly talented Costanza Francavilla (Tricky) at our side. Such a pleasure to rock with someone who just 'gets' sound and can sculpt it on the fly.
Finally, our project Birds of Pray is really starting to soar. After a marathon session last week, we completed our first track, and managed to skeleton two others. BOP is our side project with Voodofe and Jim Kelly (formerly of New Kingdom). The project echos the heavy rock/hip-hop fusion of past No Sur projects like '06's I-n-I vs. No Surrender EP, but its more poppy and isn't heavy on the electro elements or faster tempos of NSRNDR (though I have managed to sneak my SID synth sounds on what is currently the lead track).
The Birds project is happening at the fastest pace with which I've ever worked on a record. Its more like a bunch of friends getting together to have fun than musicians coming together to make a record. I'll play a track Voo or Kelly hum out a melody, I hit record...and its a wrap. Oh, and we're already about to shoot the first video....to be directed by acclaimed visual artist Mikal Hameed (who rocked 'em at The New Museum recently).
All that to say....things are way groovy man.
So do yer thing man/woman...its summer...hit the beach, the BBQ, the free shows...we'll be here when you get back.
Damn I forgot to say...'Decibel War'....well...just wait...its gonna be nutters.
easy,
'Phim
