I've always been pretty sure that corporations are the devil. I have to give props to Q-92 though... We announced a Stabilo show a couple of weeks ago and when I called the Q to announce the show they were all over it. They said, 'yeah great, we're playing their new single so we'll mention the show'... the power of Radio is that we almost sold this last minute Tuesday night show out... Thank-you Steph Hunter and Q-92 for being there and promoting the music you are playing and we are presenting. This is the way it is supposed to work... everyone helping eachother out. Using the media power for good... to create community... to have the people who live in this community be proud to go out and do things together like see up and coming rock and roll bands in small clubs... for quite a few years recently, it seemed that Sudbury was getting the idea that the only music you should see is popular arena acts... Nickelback and whatever... boring!! For me... the true excitement of music is to always be discovering something new... that's why we book a wide array of styles at the Townehouse... that's why I love Q-92 and CBC 99.9 and CKLU 96.7... I don't like all the music they play... nobody has to like ALL music... you can't own EVERY record... but they all prove time and time again that whether you are working under a corporation, government legislation or not-for-profit rules... people are in Radio because they love music and they love this community... and they are all very human and very cool people. I don't love all the music... but I do love ALL of the music lovers.

I will admit that when I work Evening on Q-92, I was given the freedom to talk about whatever the hell I wanted. I used to plug shows at The Townehouse all the time, mainly cause I was there every night watching bands too!  At my current station, I'm not allowed to mention any concerts that are in town unless the promotor/venue buy advertising with us, which I think is total bullshit.

I agree with Paul as far as local stations providing a more local feel to their announcements.
People who work in any form of media in a city like ours can't forget where it all came from.
So, and as I've stated to Paul in the past, I will promote anything that says "local" as much as I possibly can.  And it's mostly the events at the Townehouse that get the best/most feedback.  I use the Towneouse online calendar to fill my regular weekends announcements and people tell me how it really does make a difference.  So hurrah for P lo and the peeps at the T Ho, without you, I'd have nothing COOL to talk about on the radio!

Yours,
Jaime P.
