Remember when John Paul Jones looks at the newly arrived tour itinerary in
The Song Remains the Same and utters in amazement, "This is tomorrow!"?
Well, that's us today. The oh my god tour starts tomorrow. We'll be playing about 40 shows; we posted 'em at ohmygodmusic.com, facebook.com/ohmygodmusic and myspace.com/ohmygod. The new album (
The Night Undoes the Work of the Day) doesn't come out officially 'til Sept. 29, but we'll have it at all shows and it'll be up for pre-order very soon at splitredrecords.com
"The times, they are a-transmutin'"...we have decided to end our eight-year tradition of sending out postcard mailers in advance of our tours. It's WAY more than doubled in price (much obliged, USPS and Los Kinkos), and takes so long to do...and y'all are facebookin' motha-fo-ya's nowadays anyways ("I just put a rock down on a table! I dropped my fork at lunch today! I feel sad in this lifetime. No, wait, it's four minutes later, and I feel happy! Just thought all 653 of you would want to know! And I have plenty of time today to make sure you do!"). Your streetside mailboxes are full of dust and overrun with a breed of spiders that thrive in dark, dry, silent places. SO, we're only doing emails, myspace and facebook. Please spread our dates and our posts around to your network of "confirmed friends." It's nice to have websites that confirm for you exactly who your friends are and aren't. I used to be so unsure about that kind of a thing.
We'll be moving through Wisconsin and Minnesota up to Iowa and S. Dakota, then through Utah, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Nebraska, and Illinois...and that's just the first leg of the tour (first leg ends with Sat. Sept. 26 at Double Door in Chicago). Please tell everyone and come out. The sound of our practices suggests special things afoot.
Ain't that lovin' you baby,
oh my god
"Besides exterminating the devil, your other dream is to be loved for who you are. A true priest is never loved. The church doesn’t care a whit whether you’re loved, my son. Be respected, obeyed. Keep order all day long knowing full well disorder will win out tomorrow, because in this sorry world, the night undoes the work of the day."
