November 5, 2008 - Wednesday

Alright everyone, here is the start of the trip...kind of! I played for NAU's Young Life last Wednesday in a small coffee shop in good ol' Flagstaff. It was a great time (...that mostly means it wasn't too cold for me!). I left for San Diego on Saturday and arrived safely, just in time to go out to dinner with my cousin's in celebration for one of their birthdays. We went to The Islands and I'm beginning to think right now, "Why am I telling this??". So, I'll move on!

I played on Sunday morning for a church here in San Diego (Canyon Springs) and I got to jam out with a funk-worship band...so sweet! They played on a couple of my songs with me and I have to say, it sounded really good! Different than the simple acoustic I'm used to, but really good!

Nate, my percussionist (he's the guy who was "looking for his ball" in the BANNED note...great story, you should read it), got in last night from Seattle. He got off the plane with the usual 'pressure headache', which also makes your stomach not feel too great, but he knew he should eat anyways....so we went to In-N-Out (of course!). What was Nate's response to this great-tasting burger: "In-N-Out doesn't make your stomach hurt after you eat it like McDonald's does". Nobody does it like In-N-Out...nobody.

I'm actually looking forward to getting to Seattle to eat at the burger shop similar to In-N-Out: Dick's. Yes, that's what it's called; you can think of tons of horrible saying from that, or you can just go there and eat a decent burger!

Well, today we pretty much slept in, got covered in dog hair by Sunny, the golden retriever, ate at C's Deli, and spent time enjoying the cool, rainy, San Diego weather. Nate & I went to a music store and to Target (I packed just about everything I had but deodorant...sucks). We also stopped by Starbucks today for one of the most amazing things: free coffee!! Apparantly, if you go into Starbucks on Election Day and tell them you voted, you get a free cup of coffee! After a little research, we also discovered that today is free-cone day at Ben & Jerry's, which we're going to hit up after dinner. AND if you go to Krispy Kreme with your "I Voted" sticker on, they'll give you a free star-shaped donut w/red, white, and blue sprinkles (pretty much it's the same free donut they ALWAYS give you when you walk in w/some sprinkles on it). Well, Nate & I voted, but I sent my ballot in early, so I have no idea where the sticker went and I can't speak on behalf of Nate...even though he's right next to me!

We saw the funniest thing today, though, driving around. Apparantly in Califoria, they set up polling spot in very unusual areas: people's garages. Is this the shadiest thing or what?? You go and vote in somebody's garage!!! Well, we thought of stopping by to get some stickers so we could grab some free donuts later, but it didn't seem worth it to get the colored sprinkles...we might just go and get a free one w/out the sprinkles (I guess we won't be patriotic w/our donuts this time around).

We're playing tomorrow night for SDSU Young Life, so that should be a great time! Hopefully it isn't raining tomorrow! That's about all I got for now...keep checking back for some better stories!

First let me say that I'm so happy that you are having such a great time, although I can't believe you couldn't come up with somewhere more creative to get a burger.
(Yes there is somebody who doesn't like In & Out! :) We're going to Culver's when you get back, I'm picking up you and Stephanie, and I'm going to treat you to a GREAT fast food burger!

Needless to say I miss you terribly, it's just not the same without you, Kevin and Fred are trying to come up to deep conversations to have with me, but well... But I'm glad you got this opportunity and that you're having a wonderful time.

Be safe, see you in December.
