I saw this on the new a few days ago.

I can't believe any tool would actually pay for something they can only visit...

Apparently the current "owner" of the work has had to replace the glass and restore the artwork a number of times because of other peoples graffiti over the top of it.

However nice the piece is (it is) surely it's not worth the effort or money?!

Society's attempt to claim and possess. Twisted collective consciousness. Such unnecessary weight! Banksy's work is an uplifted flowing of values and inspiration, supporting us to think outside of the box. Never as a means to an end, people.

"This is an amazing opportunity for serious art collectors"... that always sounds like its the kind of thing an artist would not want his/her work associated with. im not entirely sure you can call a person who will pay over 200,000 pounds for a wall..."serious"

I bought four walls and a roof and called it a house. I should buy three walls now. Thats a smoking shelter. Whenever I go to Berlin they still try to make me buy 'Wall'....now thats mad.

owners of the wall are selling it. duh. i dunno about the law in the uk but in the us the painting would be considered a gift, barring previous contract.

I read this over a week ago (METRO) when it was only starting out. I also just yesterday posted the link to this news under the photo in your gallery.

From the Council Painted over the work at Chalk Farm, I have been all for people collecting this and saving it for the future of Art History. These are not just "Spray Paintings" as a lot of people see them these are works of Art, and should be considered that by London Council and beyond. They should be saved so my children can see them and know a generation of Artists and an extraordinary modern thinker such as Banksy.

I do not think this is madness, this is (I HOPE TO CHRIST) serious art collectors buying up this work. This is not the first time this has happened either, a lot of "walls" have been sold on EBAY, and I am sure this is not the last to do so. In all I want to walk into a Gallery and see these works, I want to walk down the street and have my photo taken next to one. I am as most of you reading this, a massive fan of this mans work. I have followed it for a long time, from the beginning of the Banksy.co.uk website. (I think I recall him selling prints online for £10/£20 a pop.)

Banksy is an artist, someone who has a message no matter how "deliberate" that is. He has and will continue to shock us, love us, and hate us.

Love as always,
William...

salut banksy !
! ! yup, banksy is now being SOLD on a wall near you.
apparently, he found this out and went to his most famous peices and started ruining them before they could be perspexed and sold.
unfotunately, he can't do them all, and about 25 walls have been sold

hahahahahaha
Bansky would love the irony!! in a show I went to in Hoxton about 6 or 7 years ago (the one with the painted cow) there was a wall in his show with a cut marks (burgalar alarm on the outside and madified painting on the inside with wall paper) made me laugh!! but you had kids off the local council estate and guys in suits with their BMW's parked outside!! it was a free show in a warehouse on Kingsland road and we used to love spotting his work about the area. Sadly lots got scrubbed off now.
