The UTMB is deserted. Most of the wards are closed. Only some of them are closed for repairs. The others will never open again. What used to be a 500+ bed hospital will be reduced to less than half of that. There's just not enough money or capability to run the place at its full capacity after Hurricane Ike. A deserted hospital with half the lights off is pretty creepy. A deserted, half-lit children's ward is REALLY creepy.
The Lunar test is easy and very short. This is a feasibility study. If the results are positive from these 11-day proto-tests they're executing, they'll implement a full 114-day Lunar Study next year possibly. I'm one of only 2 subjects; there were 10 of us prior to the storm.
I needed a sabbatical from my life in Cali, and that makes the compression stockings, the tests, the separation from my friends worthwhile. This country's obsession with what's wrong will keep it from happiness.
