Thanks for posting this. PLEASE VOTE EVERYONE! As a reformed disenfranchised leftist, I BEG YOU!!!!!!

An alarming number of my friends have cited that they won't vote because it just doesn't matter. Whether you're an Obama fan or a McCain fan (and I hope it's the former), vote at least because you CAN. If you don't like either, choose the lesser of the two evils. Just do something.

REASONS:

Under Mugabe's fascism in Zimbabwe, thousands of voters were gunned down, murdered, and threatened with violence if they did not vote for the dictator.

Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines reigned for decades, unchecked, while the poor grew exponentially impoverished. Voters had no power. Dissenters were murdered by the thousands. Ballot boxes were stuffed.

A mere SIX years ago, Saddam Hussein wins "100%" of the vote. There were 11,445,638 eligible voters - and every one of them "voted" for the president. What facilitated this outcome? How about COMPLETE powerlessness in voters, who either grew increasingly resigned to their fate and decided not to resist, or were too afraid of being killed to vote otherwise.

This is all recent history. This is all now! We have no reason to feel apathetic or disenfranchised. It would be a total slap in the face to all the third-world countries out there that we EXPLOIT to leverage ourselves into a primary economy if we did NOT vote.

I am idealistic. I feel disenfranchised. I don't think Obama is our savior, or "the best thing since sliced bread." But I am voting for him because I have a choice, and because we need to swing the pendulum in the opposite direction. Even if it's just a milimeter, it needs to happen.

Ok, with that, I will now step off my platform.

XO, Marissa

thank you sarah, and the comment from marissa, thank you so much!
i can see why people hate the "machine" and the "system" but if you are living and working in america you are part of it, so why not use your voice and be a good part of it. apathy never changed anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
