This Mess We Keep Reshaping
(Fence)
Those already familiar with Fife's Fence Collective will be well aware of their penchant for sweet, clever pop built as much upon the folk tradition as on Krautrock and found sounds. The music on the appropriately-named second album from the appropriately-named Found should therefore come as no surprise.
Formed in 2005 and based in Edinburgh, the band self-released their debut last year and since then have played a variety of festivals, including the BBC Electric Proms, Tryptych, Connect and Fence's own annual Spring event, the Homegame.
Although they've stayed largely true to the Fence DIY ethic, with five people in the band, this is no mere bedroom project. For all its quirkiness the sound is far richer than most other Fence offerings, yet still has Ziggy Campbell's distinctly Scottish vocals as a nod to the Collective's woodsy identity. Fans of the Beatley end of Lone Pigeon's solo repertoire will delight at this.
