Dismayed to learn of the cancelleation of this year's Tapestry Goes West, without doubt the UK's best small festival.
While it's easy enough for us to laugh at the slow sales affecting the self-important dinosaur that is Glastonbury - was it Jay-Z? the weather? the ridiculous registrations system? who cars? - those same few sales are the difference between life and death to festivals like Tapestry.
Things have been good the last few years. When people got sick of the pomposity, the prices, the overcrowding and the corporate bullshit of the big festivals, they started their own. And people came. They realised samll was beautiful nd that's just one of the reasons Glastonbury isn't as popular now as it was.
But we've been spoiled. As this so-called credit crunch bites, the risk-takers who've set up their small festivals for the love of musicv and good vibes are naturally suffering. Tap wasn't the first to fall this year and it won't be the last.
So what can we do? Simple: everyone who digs grooving in the open air should get looking for a festival to go to. Bugger the weather: Glastonbury's the biggest festival in BNritain and it's pissed down there morning, noon and night for the past 50 years or whatever.
What's a bit of rain beyween freaks!
Get out now and prepare to groove the Summer away. Our healthy music scene depends on it. If you want something a bit special, quirky, odd and wildly fun - ie. not V - go out and grab it now!
And hats off to Barry and everyone who's ever put on a festival! Keep on keepin' on and KICK OUT THE JAMS!!!
