Organizers of "Our Family Matters" just announced that Ray Boltz, Contemporary Christian Music Dove Award winner, will perform at the four-day affirming conference held Wednesday, October 22 through Saturday, October 25 at Second Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tenn. Boltz came out publicly last week in the
Washington Blade.
Launched as a live version of the award-winning documentary
God and Gays: Bridging the Gap, the four-day conference offers a contemporary Christian perspective on being gay and Christian. Geared to all family members, the schedule includes three days of workshops, a film festival, live concerts, and national keynote speakers Dr. Jack Rogers and Rev. Deborah Johnson.
Organizer Kim Clark told
Out & About that this conference comes to Tennessee at a crucial time, as earlier this summer an affirming Unitarian Universalist church suffered a tragic shooting. Clark said, "We address the support needed to heal communities of faith, and provide the education friends and family members need as they face situations that are initially difficult to reconcile: loving their gay relative while risking a lack of understanding from some churches and social circles."
