Gays and Lesbians Opposed to Violence (GLOV), a group active in the 1990s, has re-formed in Washington DC in response to several recent attacks on gay men in the city, including the severe beating of Todd Metrokin and the murder of Tony Hunter.
Nearly two decades ago, Tom Donegan and Tracey Conaty formed GLOV to respond to violent crimes in the LGBT community. GLOV took reports on LGBT-related hate crimes, published an annual hate crime report and provided sensitivity training to police responding to anti-gay violence.
On Monday, a meeting was held to discuss the recent attacks in the city. In attendance were close to 50 people, including Metrokin, three Councilmembers, the director of the mayor's office on LGBT affairs, the head of the police department's special liaison units and several detectives from the 3rd District. Those at the meeting effectively re-formed GLOV.
