i have the new soltero album on hand, finally, and my apologies to everyone who has waited so long to hear it. the amount of time it took shouldn’t suggest to you that this is some dark side of the moon-scale chef d’ouevre...i should be so lucky. it’s a quieter, home-recorded album, but with more time and care invested into the songs than i’ve done before. this was satisfying in some ways, and it also constantly tested my limited technical knowledge...especially on the mysteries of recording on a buzzing tape machine. i moved to several different towns during the writing/recording/mixing of you’re no dream, and found myself noticing so many new possibilities in music - in mine, in everyone’s. i feel like i’m just starting to figure out what i’m talking about...this album isn’t experimental, doesn’t represent a mind fracturing in a kaleidoscopic supernova. it’s romantic and personal.
today, not so long after the record’s completion, i’m as excited about music as ever. songs i had started writing a year ago in france have been coming back to me, and new ones too. i hope to have some of them ready for these upcoming tours.
please check out the page for lewis and clarke, by the way - they just set off on tour, and it’s an amazing live show. they’re a five-piece now, playing the lush songs from "blasts of holy birth" in their full greatness.
