It's taken way too long for me to put something here about Tommyfest. For those who do not know him Tommy Castles was to me someone that would always be there after a spot at the Cedar Tavern to tell me what he thought of my set and offer words of wisdom and encouragement. He was a very genuine man and I always took what he had to say very seriously. That said we did not know each other that well. A few months before he died I had the good fortune to meet him whilst strolling on Blackpool Beach with my friend Andrew. We sat and had a good chat. I'm thankfull for that as he spoke very openly and passionately about many a topic and I feel I got to know him at least a little bit better before he died. Before he died he was looked after in Trinity Hopsice. Tommyfest was a charity festival to raise money for the hospice and to celebrate the life of a very popular man. It took place over two days and was organised by Tommy's family and friends. I can't imagine that it could of been done any better. There was a great atmosphere and all of the bands that played were great. Many of which were Tommy's favourite acts around Blackpool. The crowd were awesome and it was definatley the most enjoyable gig I've ever done. I just want to thank all the other acts that played, all of the people that helped to organise it and of course Tommy for inspiring us all to make it happen. I'm pretty sure that there will be a Tommyfest 2007 so I will look forward to that.
