Songwriter.....mentor......father.......spokesman.......rebel.......recluse.....life of the party.......guru.......historian........futurist.......song and dance man.......first to arrive........last to leave......myth builder.......traveler......performer.........but mostly......... friend.     Bob Childers was all of these and much more. It's hard to believe he's gone. It's hard , but for those of us lucky enough to have known him he'll never really be gone. He's there whenever we need the strength to carry on, a reality check when were flying high, or a smile and a kind word when we're down. He's there for our trips to the mountain tops and the valleys below. He's there in the songs he wrote and the ones we were fortunate enough to write with him. Thanks Bob. We'll all see you again soon enough. But for now, adios. Amigo bueno , adios.        John Cooper   Red Dirt Rangers

I was just thinking about Bob this morning while perusing the Woody Fest website. I'm going to miss seeing him so very much... but I know he'll be there, floating on the Okemah wind...

john, after being a life long fan of his songs i was finally fortunate enough to meet bob a little over a year ago. we began talking about a project i had in mind about him for the trdm site. he was all up about and we began to exchange phone calls fairly regularly.

the one thing that really struck me about bob was even though i had only known him personally for a short while,he had a way of making you feel like you had known each other forever.

sadly, due to his medical issues and some things of my own,we never finished the project, but he left me with a lot of good memories and a huge amount of respect.

like you said,he will always be there in his songs.

We took a lightning strike last week that knocked out well, phone, and computer. I thought, what would Bob do. I came to the conclusion that since the well was the first to come back that I should take a shower but it wasn't time to talk on the phone or use a computer yet. He is still helping me through every day.

Tricia and Nelson

I have gotten to know Bob and his music through the LOVE that my husband, Nelson, Shared with me for this amazing man. His music, the lyrics, and the stories behind the lyrics, have kept my husband going through some rough times, as i am sure that it did for MANY people. His music was featured in our wedding, and we have passed his music on to my sons, so let the next generation of freethinkers bloom. Bob's music will have a legacy........be it around a campfire, in a pasture, or on the top music lists in the nation........the music WILL play on. To those who knew him personally, YOU LUCKY DEVILS!!!! The spirit of Bob and nights at the "farm" will influence that beloved red dirt jammin for years to come.....I can't wait. To those that are mourning his loss, my husband especially, i send you all of God's comfort I can stir up :-) God Bless you all.
