Dear Brody / Movement Now,
Please extend our thanks and appreciation to everyone involved in the
Nowloween Food Drive for their participation and generous support.
We are very grateful for your tremendous effort and the resulting donation
of 702 pounds of food to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. This donation
has a net worth of $1,186.38.
Contributions from food drives like yours of high-quality food items help us
feed more than 65,000 people in northern Nevada annually who are hungry,
including children, the elderly and the working poor.
In addition to individual donations of food, food drives conducted by
concerned citizens, organizations and businesses bring in about 200,000
pounds annually of food for hungry people who depend on food from emergency
food pantries. About 15 to 20 percent of all food distributed by the Food
Bank is collected from food drives and donations.
Food drives and donations of food items are particularly valuable to our
local food pantries since contributions from national sources through the
Americaʼs Second Harvest network of food banks have diminished in recent
years. Many products we receive from national manufacturers are non-food
items, ranging from diapers and personal care items to laundry detergent,
snack foods and beverages.
While these products are valuable and can be used by shelters and
rehabilitation or other programs, we still must budget about $250,000 to
purchase in basic food products each year to supply our agency partners, now
numbering about 110 non-profit organizations and church pantries.
Every pound of nutritious food that is donated helps stretch the Food Bank
dollar farther. We and our agencies who receive donated food can also save
money for needed expenses such as staffing and services to our clients.
