Those are the states that still have laws that ban atheists from being government officials despite the fact that in 1961, the Supreme Court ruled against such discrimination against non-believers, stating "We repeat and again reaffirm that neither a State nor the Federal
Government can constitutionally force a person 'to profess a belief or
disbelief in any religion.'"

Well, Texas is still part of the "south", unfortunately. Even if it wasn't part of "the south" when being "the south" meant you were "the south" part of the United States that fought "the north." Still, people are idiots in "the south" and love to thrive on "ignorance" because they're "assholes" and "bigots.

Article 1, Section 4 of the Texas Constitution states:

No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this State; nor shall any one be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being.
