So I tried my first ultramarathon yesterday. I ended up pulling out at mile 35 after realizing that I was going to run out of daylight if I continued.
I am not sad. I am very impressed at what I did even though I failed. I crossed a bridge once by myself that was made of railroad ties and I could see through the bottom. I am scared of heights. I crossed a part of the traik that was washed out and alsi high enough up to scare me a little. I could have finished but I needed a pacer or something for the end. I had no pacer lined up. I know better for the next time. I also was slower than normal due to my life right now and less running. I could be much faster in the next try. I don't know if I want to try again, but the race will still be here next year.
I learned so much from failing that I don't really view it a a true fail. A DNF, yes, and my first one, but really not a true fail.
The race was the Viaduct Trail Ultramarathon. Good times, great race. I tried at the 50 mile option. I had a great time.
