Fuck me - Syd Barrett's dead! The original 'get up and do it yourself' kid, psychedelic freedom, music made from expression, not COMMERCE.

Pink Floyd should have packed it in when he left - or at least changed their name. He came up with it - he wrote the songs, end of story. They did some great stuff after he left too. But they were never going to get away from a character like Syd. I mean there aren't many artists like Van Gogh around and he was one of those.

Then his solo stuff - of the 2 albums I have played The Madcap Laughs the most in complete. There's everything there from cute love, darkness and grungy pop - just up my street really. And from Barrett loads more but I tend to pick out tracks and play them over and over - like Baby Lemonade and Effervescing Elephant (a track which my daughter gleely sings - she knows every word).
